Two Moons

by Two Moons on 15 January 2014 - 22:01

They travel quite a bit, your within their range.
Is there anything that could be attracting them, dogfood, garbage cans, etc.

Cougar piss scares the hell out of them......
They hate electric fences alternate ground hot wire close to the ground.

if it's legal and in season shoot them.
My dogs keep them at bay.

My wife's chickens! Judging by the barking, yipping, and howling, I'm looking at at least 4 of them.

The dogs are generally inside at night, with one sleeping on the back porch.  If not for that, I imagine they would have been quiet about digging under the coop.   Thinking about sitting out tonight in wait.  Wink Smile

Chickens will do it.
The electric fence is worth it's price done right.

A dear stand is great for sitting out, keeps your scent up high,
not too close and get yourself some 4 buck, might get more than one at a time.

That's not a bad idea.  Not going to help me tonight though.  We can take them anytime as nuisance animals here.

some 4 buck

Right now all I have is some 12 gauge  9 pellet 00, and some steel bird shot.  I have an alternative I can use.

I just prefer the 4 buck, more pellets still very lethal, wider pattern, but the 00 will do just fine.
Anything will do in a pinch.
Bait them in the spot you like with some chicken feathers, dirty chicken feathers.

Well Carlin,
how'd the Coyote hunt go?

Not good.  The deer stand is set up elsewhere, so I'll need to relocate.  I could hear them, but apparently they knew I was there and just kept circling.  Later this am, one tried to bait one of my dogs into the woods.  I read that their mating season begins in January, and they are more aggressive, brazen, and willing to engage people and animals.  You need a permit to trap them here but...

You need to be there first ahead of them, they are smart.
Watch the wind and your scent but if you don't have a stand handy you can hunt them from the ground from the brush, they will see any kind of blind unless it's been there for months, they'll know it's human made.
I don't know about more aggressive but they are much more active and travel places out of their normal territory sometimes at mating season.
It's not easy to trap one, and you only get one at a time unless you set multiple sets.
A call or call tape and a piece of rabbit fur will draw them real close.
