I went through this a couple of years ago when it became time to retire my old Dell and ended up with a much better computer by building it instead of buying one already assembled. Ended up with an Intel Extreme mother board, liquid cooled Intel core i7 3.46/3.73 Ghz 6 core/12 way processor, 12 Gb of memory, twin mirrored solid state hard drives for the operating system and applications plus a 1Tb drive for data, an eVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti graphics adapter and a 29" widescreen HD monitor. 2 years later and the machine is still screaming fast!
