This debate is not going to change my mind any. History of their actions, voting records, bills sponsored/co-sponsored, and general comments are more important than a snap shot of one night.

by beetree on 04 October 2012 - 20:10

What I heard Romney say is he would NOT need to raise taxes on the middle class because his plan would create more taxpaying jobs. The logic is if you have more people working decent wage paying jobs, and he specifically talked about supporting and creating small businesses,  we now have more people paying taxes. And without increased big government, you would then increase revenue and reduce spending because of decreased entitlements. That does make sense to me.

Keith, what you wrote to Deanna is just absurd. A voting choice has nothing to do with being associated "with the company you keep". That was idiotic for such a brainiac. You labeling only some people "known liars" is your opinion. You'd have to take out 91% of the people to be truthful.

According to a national study, 91 percent of people lie on a regular basis, and, in reality, the other nine percent were probably lying.’ — Steven Gaffney (’85

Keith,,
I am not going to debate whether every word that has proceeded from either candidates mouth is 100% accurate 100% of the time..Nether Pres. Obama or Romney are perfect and I am certain that each of them even if unintentionally lied about something along the way.

I will say it again as it does some up my personal opinion about the election. I will choose between two imperfect candidates. We all must decide for ourselves what we can and cant not live with,,No candidate is going to fit 100% into anyones agenda.

I just had a family member tell me that a"real" Christian would not support Obama. That sounds just about as ridiculous as you telling me that because I would support Romney my Christian faith must be feigned...

I hate political threads,,lol,,I regret posting actually..It was a moment of indiscretion..

Keith maybe we can finish this converstion over a few drinks ...;)

Thanks Beetree for the support..

You guys must all be above middle class to support Romney. I feel sorry for the working poor. Oh well life slowly goes on and Beetree I heard it for 8 years how giving the rich more tax breaks = more jobs, they received the largest tax break in history and those breaks equaled less jobs.

Romney is a hypocrite as he opposes Obamacare but had no problem passing the same medical care in Mass. but oh well turn a blind eye to the bullshit lies.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2012/10/03/162263539/romney-goes-on-offense-pays-for-it-in-first-wave-of-fact-checks?ft=1&f=100

— One of the biggest disputes was over tax cuts. Obama argued that Romney's plan to stimulate the economy includes a tax cut totaling $5 trillion that, Obama said, isn't possible because the Republican nominee is also promising to spend money in other places.

Romney flatly disputed that number. "First of all, I don't have a $5 trillion tax cut," he said.

Who's right? The Washington Post's Fact Checker says the facts on this one are on Obama's side. The New York Times notes that Romney "has proposed cutting all marginal tax rates by 20 percent — which would in and of itself cut tax revenue by $5 trillion."

FactCheck.org has weighed in too, tweeting during the debate that "Romney says he will pay for $5T tax cut without raising deficit or raising taxes on middle class. Experts say that's not possible."

PolitiFact has given a "mostly true" rating to the charge that "Romney is proposing a tax plan "that would give millionaires another tax break and raise taxes on middle class families by up to $2,000 a year."

I read that the first time GSD, in your first link. I think you and other die hard Obama supporters keep ignoring what I just wrote about what Romney actually said. The problem is Obama is NOT a small business job creator which would be the support and backbone for the Middle class. Small businesses need to be successful to pay their workers....the middleclass, a decent working wage. If there is a lack of confidence in the markets as there is now, those business starts don't happen, and people don't get hired. They continue drawing on government entitlements and benefits to survive.

Large amounts of cash are just sitting, and waiting, not invested,  because the wealthy are waitng for a postive change in the economy, their money, like everyone elses,  isn't earning interest from savings or money markets, the rates are dismal. But it is better than watching it shrink with bad or failing investments. As much as I support green energy, all the money guys say it goes away as soon as the Obama incentives stop. That makes it a bandaid solution, not a longterm sustainable one.

I was  more impressed with Romney's business model, compared to Obama's, which focused on collecting more revenue funds from the wealthy by elimating perks and loopholes. Fine do that, but you need to build the jobs that employ the middleclass, and low paying service jobs just won't do it.

I am not ignoring what he said. I just refuse to listen to BS. When a person slams something that they themselves pass as law, well that speaks volumes to that persons morals and convictions.

These Romney ideas sound like Reagan, Bush1 and Bush2 and IMO that will lead to worse conditions for the middle class, working poor and poor.

Hey no problem I always have the tree bark and mustard green diet to fall back on to feed my family.

BTW, I am moving on from this thread as no good will come from this unless you have a good tree bark and mustard green recipe.

BTW2, Notice my new slim downed name? Comes from the tree bark and greens, lol.

GSD if the above paragraph is in reference to Romney passing the present heath care coverage in Massachusetts, which is very similiar to Obamacare please keep a few things in mind.

Massachusetts is as far left as they go, what Romney proposed (as governor) and the final product are somewhat different. Our legislature here is overwhelmingly Democratic. They tweeked his proposal quite a bit before the final product passed.

BEE, excellent posts on small businesses. Right on the money.

One other thing about starting a small business in Massachusetts is the red tape etc. Let me give you an example.

The permits and licensing process is pathetic.

In order to get certain licenses you have to prove you have insurance, then you have to be bonded, then you have to prove you have workman’s comp., etc. etc. etc. So you have to start one process and complete it before going to the next process.

One particular license that I have required all of the above, plus three letters from competing business owners recommending me.

All in all to legally start my business from scratch today would take around 6 months. Try paying the bills plus employees for 6 months without any financial intake. How many people are going to be able to afford that?

It is not conducive to start  a business here.

Did he sign it??? Case closed the man is a hypocrite.

You will see, all Romney is is a Bush2 look alike. Mark my words, more war, more recession and more stupidity.

Now it is time to find that recipe, any suggestions?

Just like our dog clubs, those at the top, exist for those at the top.  They give you talking points to debate over day after day after day like it makes any difference.  In the meantime they do what's best for those that can line their pockets with the most money.  They take care of their own, they don't give a shit about you.
