IMO, imprisonment of WILD animals for human 'entertainment', is immoral.

Immoral, lol. That's a bit of stretch, and a place you may not want to take this.

It is a double edge sword that a modern zoo's mission is to educate in the form of viewing and it is also entertaining. If we are not taught to care, there would be no hope, only extinction.

Orca's in the Wild do horrible things to Sea Lion Puppies (and other creatures). For entertainment, not just food. They are capable of being so nice and then so nasty as well.

Where do you suppose the excess offspring of the animals kept in zoos end up? Zoos have been around for a long time, and still extinction is happening...now even African lions are endangered as are African hunting dogs. Zoos do not prevent extinction in the wild. There are more tigers in captivity in the US than in the wild. Asian elephant are close to extinction...zoos have not helped to prevent their demise in the wild. Same for mountain gorillas. The list goes on and on. Zoos do not prevent extinction in the wild. All they do is make people feel comfortable that as long as animals are warehoused in captivity, they don't need to worry. After all, as long as the animals can be viewed in captivity, who cares if they are gone in the wild...zoo visitors aren't going to the wild to see them anyway, it's too convenient to see them at the local zoo.

Where to begin with all the incorrect assertions and conclusions you have made for yourself?
Let's start with the odd conclusion that building Zoo's "do not prevent extinction" is what I said. Zoo's have become a gene repository of what wildlife is left after human has destroyed their habitat, or through their greedy slaughter, and even unsurmountable disease spreading. It is a daunting task between partnering zoo's to maintain what lines are left, so when and if people care enough to protect such a finite life resource, it may still be possible. That is where the hope comes in play.
