are these scientists you speak of actual scientists or historians/"social scientists", from my understanding their are no original documents so dating?? or do you just mean cross correlating versions with other versions and trying to place them in a historical contexts. imean the whole thing was written over a 1500 year period by multiple authors none of which were the original receivers of the "word" just translators and chroniclers?

The interesting thing about historians who study the ancient world is that they rely heavily upon archeology. What is now considered common knowledge in the field, isn't simply because the Bible account is taken at face value. In fact, it is typically treated with skepticism, with accepted "facts" being very difficult to come by. The book is not considered without error by any means; even today, there are some historians who argue against the Egyptian exile, in light of limited Egyptian artifacts from that period. This is largely an argument from silence, but it illustrates the fact that there naturally exists enough skepticism within the community (predominately a secular one) to trust the science.

real scientists never trust the science, they make hypothesis frame it in a theory and support it with evidence or not.
historians are not scientists, and creationists are the furthest from science and in fact rational thought.

Historians, however, have the most power. Don't they though?

...and you are an expert on history and archeology, familiar enough with the methodology to make that determination? Didn't think so. Science isn't about the title, it's all about the method. Doesn't appear you know any more about history than you do rocket science.
