How would anyone know who was beside Jesus, regardless of what paintings had? The paintings weren't done by anyone around them were they? Even "if" Jesus was married to her He was "tried in all points as we are, yet without sin", so it wouldn't matter either way. (Not saying marriage is a sin lol, you know what I mean)
Can you tell me which passage you're referring to in Luke? I can't remember it at the moment. But the she was the first lady the angel told about Easter? I understand what you mean by that, but take the time to read this http://www.cause-of-god.com/easter.html .
Can't say I know much about Pope Gregory getting people to believe that, but that's the problem even today.....People will twist the scriptures, people read into things "too much", people have found these un-inspired "gnostic gospels" and other scrolls written by people who had their own devious agendas. The Bible is clear on what we need to know, plain and simple. There are so many denominations and false religions that twist everything, create their own creeds aside from the (which the scriptures speak against) bible, etc etc. That's why so many people don't know what to believe anymore.

You'd think no one ever reads the news around here.
An obscure, strangely square, small piece of what?
A book, a note to the teacher?
What?
Out of context, in the third person, written by whom?
And now the religious wait to know if it truly is real, real in what sense?
I think it's an ancient fortune cookie myself.
Typical.

Do they? Not all of us are "waiting" to know. Some of us know it's of no importance, nor was it necessary even "if" it was true. It wouldn't change anything even if it was true.

You are correct,
it's of no importance.
Yet ripples have a way of turning into waves, sometimes even violence.
Depends on your point of view and your particular mindset of which there are a multitude of variations.

I don't remember the verse exactly but there were 2 angels and the one said to Magdalene (there were 2 other Mary's with Magdalene) why are they looking for living people among the dead people or something like that. The 2 others got scared and ran to tell Peter (lol) Magdalene hesitated to leave but wondered off a bit then when Magdalene returned and started crying that's when she seen a new angel. The new angel called her name and she then she knew it was Jesus. They had a brief conversation (lol) then Magdalene went to tell the desciples. Meanwhile Jesus was seen again as an angel on some village road outside Jerusalem.
Or something like that .. I don't have time to google verses to prove it, but that's how I remember it went down ohh and Jesus stayed on earth for 40 days after that. LOL
Jesus is Lord.

In Jesus' culture, it would have been extremely unusual for a man NOT to be married. We know some of the disciples were married: Jesus heals Peter's mother-in-law, and she then gets up and serves them. It was so difficult for an unmarried woman to make a living, that it was considered the duty of a widow's brothers-in-law to either marry her or take her into his household and look after her. If the man had no brothers, other relatives would look after the woman, so she didn't have to try to manage on her own, especially if she had no sons to help her.
The church changed a LOT of things. They made Sunday the holy day instead of Saturday (the Jewish Sabbath) they changed Jesus' birthday to coincide with pagan celebrations around the time of the winter solstice so that new converts would have an alternative to the non-Christian celebrations. They also banned priests from marrying, so that all their property would be inherited by the church.
YES, THAT is the main reason for Roman Catholic priests being celibate, not the scriptures in the Bible, which says "It is better to marry than to burn"!
It would not surprise me to find out Jesus was married. And it would not change my faith one little bit. Actually, I think being married would have made Jesus more understanding of the trials that families go through.
"It is not good for man to be alone," so God made Eve for Adam. Why would he deny his son a wife?
The marriage feast of the Lamb is more a symbolic marriage than an actual one, in my way of thinking. Jesus said that in heaven, women are not given in marriage.

This past Christmas they had a lot of shows on History 2 and the Science channel dealing with Jesus, the lost scrolls and on and on. Anyway the one that was on about Mary Magdalene was about a book--as in the Gospels--she had written and according to their research they wouldn't allow the book in the Bible because of the prostitute story. Anyway in this little Gospel there was mention of her love for him. One I saw about Jesus was called Jesus the Man and I really liked that one and learned a lot about him as just an average person. I believe he was in love with her too and if they never were married it was really a shame. Could've been one of the great love stories like Romeo and Juliette. Sita'smom thanks for sharing that article--theone with the link cause I was checking out the pic of the scroll or however you would refer to it.

vonissk, consider this reading.....
What is the Gospel of Mary Magdalene?
The Gospel of Mary Magdalene (also known as the Gospel of Mary) is a Gnostic work written in the second century around 120-180 A.D.
1 Though supposedly written by Mary Magdalene, the Gospel is actually regarded by modern scholars as anonymously written by someone in Gnostic circles. It was common for anonymous writers in the second century to attribute the name of a popular New Testament figure to their Gospel in order to gain credibility. This same pheonemon occurs with the Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Peter, Gospel of Philip, and other second century writings.
Only fragments of the Gospel of Mary actually survive today. There were approximately nine chapters originally written in the Gospel, but chapters 1-3, part of 4 and 5, and all of 6-8 are lost.2
Since it was written so late, the Gospel of Mary could not have been included in the New Testament canon which is composed of books written in the first century either by apostles or associates of apostles. Due to their earlier date and connection with the historical Jesus, the Gospels of the New Testament give us a much more historically reliable portrait of Jesus than the Gospel of Mary.
And BabyEagle, check this out regarding the da vinci code......This explains it better than I can, and more in depth than I would. This has many reasons I hold no value at all to that book.. It'll take maybe 10 minutes of your time to read it.

And also here is a well written article by someone about the "new evidence" of Jesus having a wife that was the original part of this thread. This will show why it is not authentic or true. Also keep in mind in reading this that when it refers to the gospel of Thomas, Egyptians, Philip, etc etc that they are not inspired gospel (as mentioned before these type of gospels were written with hidden agendas, and they contradict the scriptures).....It's referring to them for a reason.
