Mary placed her hand upon her forhead to help steady her as she though to her self, Why did i mix qualudes with my orange juice this morning. A cold chill went thru her as she realized

she'd seen that goat before!
♦
John watched as Mary's train pulled away. She'd said, "Never look for me, ever!"
He was alone on the platform, now, or so he thought. He turned and walked down the metal stairs to the street below. There were eating establishments on either side of the street. He started to walk towards the one with the green awning. The comforting smells of Italian food drew him in, and his stomach grumbled.
He was being followed as stealthily as the slender predator could. His body language spoke of control and steel nerves ready to act, even before, and as its prey dangles in front of him, in the oblivious state; dangerously unaware.
Stepping onto the curb, John felt a cold chill grip his temples, his neck and then goose bumps on his arms made his blond hairs raise into pins, all electrified. His hand was gripping the intricately adorned door handle when he...

discovered it was locked! Turning back towards the dark stranger he tripped over a wino, slumped against the trashcans, smashing his pint of Mogan David 20-20 to bits. "Geez" he breathed to himself, "I could really have used a slug of that to help me face whatever these campy writers have in store for me for the next 50 pages."
"No shit, man. Me too," laughed the stranger from the darkness, "That broad didn't look near as good when we got her out in the light as she did in the bar, but I'd love to see what she has in store for that goat. If we hurry we can still catch the train."

Mary's eyes narrowed into slits, and her smooth brow crinkled with suspicion. She asked the stranger with the goat, in a breathless voice, "Excuse me, sir, but, may I ask you a question... What is the name of your goat?"
The stranger in the seat holding the goat gave her a cool gaze. He looked up at her over the rim of his round titanium framed glasses, and said in a deep baritone voice, "No, mam, I don't mind at all. This is a very famous goat from down in Cajun country... the locals there call her , NONA."
A look of wonder and relief flooded Mary's face, she dared the thought...could this be... her "escape" goat?
