My two favourite parts were the Queen 'parachuting' into the stadium with 'James Bond' (Daniel Craig). Of course, the actual parachuting was done by stunt doubles, but that really was her with Daniel Craig and her corgis, in her personal quarters. She gave the filmakers 'unprecedented access' to her living space for the three minute film.

The tune the band was playing as the helicopter supposedly flew them to the stadium was the theme from the movie, "The Dambusters". We used to play it in H.S. band, so I recognized it immediately.

My second favourite bit was the orchestra playing the 'Chariots of Fire' theme. I have always LOVED that piece of music, and it brought back poignant memories of that great film. And 'Mr. Bean' added some wonderful and unexpected hilarity to the piece!

The lighting of the torch wase just awesome! What an incredible innovative design that was!

All around, well done, Britain! You launched the Games in fine style!

(Anyone else think the Queen looked rather unwell? )

Usain Bolt, Jamaica, is still "The Fastest Man Alive". His teammate, Yohan Blake won the silver, and Justin Gatlin for USA, the bronze. Fastest field ever. All three medal winners ran under 9.80

Daniel PHelps did not get dethroned he just took a breather for one time trial not a final race.
I watched BOLT   win ...

United States Olympians have done us very very PROUD,,,We have stayed on top most all the way with CHINA nipping at our heels...TODAY we fell behind by one medal to china in overall..

America's Strongest woman, 24 year old , 566lbs weight lifter GOLD in Weight Lifting...is one of our unknown , unsolicited Olympians. one who is not famous but she has the ability to balance a lot on her shoulders. MAYBE she will find some Fame and Fortune after this year.

Cannot dethrone Phelps  now.  HE is  highest decorated Swimmer medalist . 22 I believe.

He won a silver and all the rest was GOLDS and the USA Mens finished GOLD his last race ever, he claims.

I would not guess as to whether he appears at RENO? Mom Phelps says YES,  ?????

I have watched so many great runners, swimmers and gymnastics ......and the one with no feet was the ultimate.
HE got into the Olympics with a special pass as until this year no disabled Competitor was allowed in the regular world Olympics, must only participate in the Special Olympics.

He was proud to get to run in the semi trials and he placed to get to go to the finals where he did not place
