deflection or reflection?

Be a man at least. Yes, "we" as in a one on one conversation. It is not your forte. I tried. Oh well, win some you lose some.

Now, see, I don't count the giraffe experience as a complete fail, since the giraffe apparently was agreeable enough to allow the guy to get up there...I see it more as a failure on the guy's part to completely negotiate the terms with the giraffe. "You asked if you could get on my back...didn't say anything about want me to carry you around!"
vk4gsd, while I have ambivalence about keeping exotics in captivity, I certainly don't think anyone who visits a zoo is 'sick'. It's no sicker than hunting feral cats with dogs--and no, I'm not taking issue with you on that, because I actually do have an understanding of the situation there. But not everyone has the opportunity to live in a setting such as yours, where the greater portion of your country is still undeveloped lands, so for many the only place they'll ever see anything beyond a domestic dog or cat IS a zoo. Good zoos have come a long way from the steel-barred cages, and while I do feel there are some species that we can't do justice to in captivity [such as the original subjects of this thread] there are others that actually do well when kept in species-appropriate, enriched habitats.

now that is just wack, trying to draw a parallel between animals taken out of the wild (or bred in captivity, no diff.) and put in zoo or private sicko facility for human entertainment (throw in some species conservation to keep it all PC) and an animal taken (or escaped) out of a domestic situation and into the wild in a specific ecosystem that is disastrously vulnerable to them, you get the overeacharound award of the pdb for 2013...nice one.
