I would love to hear from those experienced in SCH / IPO about mistakes they first made when starting out.  Would also love to find out about the best "gurus" of SCH and what materials to read watch.  I have already read "Schutzhund Theory and Training Methods" by Susan Barwig and Stewart Hilliard.  I am currently reading Advanced Schutzhund by Ivan Balabanov and Karen Duet.
Thanks in advance!

BEULLER, BEULLER?  Anyone, Anyone?

by Sheesh on 05 August 2012 - 01:08

I'll start- I am not by any means very experienced, but have made plenty of mistakes, and am willing to share- if you have a puppy, keep the sessions Short and sweet and positive, so they end on a happy note wanting more! Several 3 minute sessions are way better than one 30 minute session. Be patient! Dogs inherently want to please, so if your dog isn't "getting it" it is most likely your fault! :-) find a good and experienced trainer and club. This is invaluable. If you are getting frustrated, flustered, or inpatient, put the dog up and go cool off. :-) Theresa

Thanks Theresa.  Good advice.  I have found a club and am starting with my 5 yr old to get ready for new puppy!  Good info on short sessions.
