Other than Brushing the dogs teeth is there anything else that can be done to help with the Breath???

by eichenluft on 17 February 2006 - 08:02

if the dogs breath is really sour, it might mean there is a rotton or infected tooth - might want to check that first. Dogs with healthy teeth have terrible breath - unless they ate something disgusting. One of my house dogs has perpetual "cat poop breath" which I don't much care for -

Out of curiosity... why worry about the dog having bad breath? Dont stick yer nose right near his mouth and ya don't have to worry about his breath ;) People worry so much about their dogs breath smelling bad so they buy dangerous treats such as Greenies and willing to risk the dogs health simply because they want the dogs breath to smell like flowers and roses.

hey doomsayer, don't mind brittany, she doesn't say much nice to anyone. as far as the bad breath, I have to agree with above post if it is really bad and not just cause they got done eating something then get the teeth checked, could be a rotten tooth. Also could indicate other health problems. Brushing really is not for bad breath it is to cut down on the tartar buildup. We do inspections on our dogs from head to tail, daily, includes being close enough to smell there breath and I also smell the ears and inspect them. (Good way of detecting a bad ear infection before dog starts shaking it's head). SO if it has real bad breath get it checked out by your vet.
