Well I am sort of new to this but could one of you tell me the difference between a fast normala2 and a a1. I would like to know the difference........Thanks...Rodd

I know OFA is the prefered game in town(Penn Hip is available now also in America). But, I imported a female years ago and OFA said her hips were so bad they would not even give her a rating. She, if I were not mistaken, was give a severe dyspastic diagnosis, if my memory serves me right. That dog lived for 14 years and never even had arthritis. She ran around like a kid until she died at age fourteen of bladder cancer/kidney failure. She was from a line of dogs with great hips. I have never sent another film to OFA for their expert analysis.

If the dog was that bad, the veterinarian should have been able to tell before sending the films off. for that matter you should have been able to see arthritic changes, or shallow sockets. If the hips were not so obviously bad, i would have recommended resubmission. however that being said, many dogs who are terribly dysplastic, never limp and not painful. but they probably shouldn't be bred either. I prefer the methodology and the science behind Penn Hip but found that few stud dog owners use it. susan

The point indended WAS the dog did not have hip dysplasia.....Duh

Just because she didn't limp doesn't mean she wasn't dysplastic. Were later rads taken to confirm no arthritic changes? If she did have good hips why didn't you resubmit? You never stated that the rads were good, just that she lived a long sound life. I had a male that didn't pass and I'm pretty certain he was ok, but as he was not being used at stud and I had no intention of standing him at stud, I never re-submitted his. He never limped and worked hard as a tending dog, lived to be 12 1/2. but I have re=-submitted several that I did not believe to be dysplastic and did eventually get numbers on them. I'm the frst to admit OFA is very far from perfect but I wouldn't quit submitting based on one dog. Susan

NO.....I am the first to admit OFA is far from perfect, as I did earlier. I either buy my dogs from Germany, already x-rayed on the SV system or as with my puppies, I send back to Germany to be place entirely on the SV system, once they reach 18 months old. I don't do the OFA thing.

SGBH,The OFA system really is pretty bad.but at least they are finally tracking here. That is a plus.My male Boss vom Friebele Froi recieved a good. When Jazena and Handors were sent by the vet..OFA said they both had rotated hips.My vet said that...whomever examined the x-rays must have been having a bad day..We have re-submitted again. The vet was really mad and did not charge for the second.
