Perma-Guard is just one of a million brands out there. It is diatomacious earth (also known as DE), which is ground up crustacean shells. It breaks down and destroys the exo-skeletons of bugs WITH exoskeletons (flies, etc) It will not kill most worms, including earthworms. It is relatively inexpensive ($20 for a 50# bag) and you can buy it at most livestock feed stores and pool chemical supply stores. (it's used as a filter for pools) It is completely safe for your dog to digest (as well as horses, which you feed in their food & voila, no flies in the manure!) and keeps the flies down. I would not suggest using it externally on dogs, as it's not good for the fine powder to get into the lungs (it looks and feels like TALCUM powder, also not good for lungs for the same reason)Put a couple of tablespoons in with each meal and it should help keep the flies down in the feces. (Any flies that land in it and lay their eggs there, the adult will be cut up and the eggs, when hatched to larvae, will die as well) I spread it on the ground (6 cups spread out covers about 3 feet in diameter) in the area where my dogs defecate, which also helps keep the bugs down. Hope this helps!

So the dogs ingest it and it kills the flies or ther larvae. What will this product do to the grass anything???? Sound interesting but I don't seem to have a fly problem.
