Hello all. A friend of mine recently acquired a VERY WELL KNOWN Belgian working dog here in the U.S. The owner of the dog is incognito, so registration for the dog is unavailable. This dog (and anyone in working lines will know him) was essentially abandoned by his owner. I do not know the original registry for the dog--certainly FCI--and would appreciate suggestions on how to re-document this dog. His identity can easily be verified through DNA and his ear tattoos. Thanks.

I fear your friend is up the proverbial creek! While duplicate papers are not impossible to get, the transfer is the key. The papers are the 'title' to the dog, just like a title on a vehicle. Unless they can be identified, duplicated in the owner of records name, and then transferred in some way, your friend is on that creek without the proverbial paddle.

I've seen a dog that was stolen get papers YEARS later. Of course, this was from the SV, where they put an ad stating that "such and such a person is requesting registration for such and such a dog." If there are no responses to it (negatively), then you get your papers, after a 6 month wait. Just a thought.

Or, you can post the name of the dog, and the name of the owner- maybe someone will see your post and be able to track the person down and get the situation resolved for you. Just an idea. David www.KiewelWorkingDogs.com
