PLEASE don't any of you take this personally, I am trying to understand why pregnant bitches are offered for sale. Thanks.

It was written in well respected American books, that you could import a pregnant bitch, to bring in new blood, without the cost of shipping lots of young puppies. You could then also sell the puppies as pure German to re coup your investment.
Those who could afford the luxury, would pay handlers to go from the USA to Germany and choose a top bitch for them. The handlers would also study top studs, and arangments would be made for the bitch to be shipped to the US after being serviced by the male of their choice.
Best Wishes,

Thanks, Jo-Ann. I tend to look at dogs from an emotional standpoint, not economical and think - oh, no, how could anyone sell that poor pregnant bitch and ship her acrossed the ocean. What you've said makes good sense, but it still makes me feel sad for the dog LOL.
Not saying that those who do it are immoral or wrong in any way, it's up to them. I have never seen a pregnant bitch offered for sale in any breed other than this one and was curious about the reasoning behind it is all. I wouldn't be able to send a dog off to Germany for training either, not hard to see that I'm not going to ever make it big in the GSD world, is it? Destined to forever be a pet owner LOL.

Blitz, i am there with ya.. i cant even for the life of me sell or give any of my dogs away.. they are here for life.. good health, bad health, ugly or broken LOL i feel that way about puppies sold.. they should go back to the breeder/me no questions asked. we are responsible for bringing them into this world,
so we are responsible for them til their last breath! some think i am nuts i dont say a word about anyone else and what they do.. its their conscience and what they have to live with... and some are really really good at finding good homes for animals that they dont have time for or cant keep anymore and i think its awesome they make sure they do the best they can to find a better home.
Regards,
Dawnmarie

Blitzen-- what a treat you are!!!
I feel exactly the same way you do, but I thought I
was probably the only one. Recently, I was just thinking how incredible it is that I always seem to have the best German Shepherd Dogs in the world. They
are the best trained ,the finest looking, the greatest
defenders and the most lovable of any GSD on earth.
Imagine that!!

Then treat them all that way instead of half tending to them???

Hello, Kougar. No, I'm not Blitzenstein, but Wildthing and now Gaby are both determined to have everyone on this board think I am. Whatever LOL. They had better be careful that the real Blitzenstein doesn't get wind of what they are publishing on a public board, he might consider it libelous and they might find themselves in a bit of legal trouble as a result.
I'm finding more and more posters to this board who live in PA. When I was looking to buy a dog, I could find none LOL.

Hi Orca Mom,
Glad to meet a kindred spirit. I really admire those who title their dogs and who go to such extremes to improve their breeding stock. It's just not for me, I'm too lazy LOL. I'll let it up to them to get the job done and when I want another dog, I'll just buy one from one of them. It's a lot easier that way. The world needs pet owners too.
