As I am preparing for the upcoming field season I am looking to access more resources to educate myself on odor dynamics, especially regarding the effects of terrain, weather, temperature, and vegetation on odor dynamics and detection work. I recently purchased "K9 Scent Training" by Resi Gerritsen & Ruud Haak and it had some good tidbits here and there regarding anatomy and the olfactory system development in canines but most of the book was dedicated to tracking and not detection work, and the information about detection work was either outdated or very basic introductory to intermediate exercises and not really for more advanced stages of training. I know fenzi has a course on this but the whole registration timing is a barrier for getting that information right now.

Some books I have considered purchasing are:

"Detector Dogs and Scent Movement" by Tom Osterkamp
"Canine Ergonomics: The Science of Working Dogs" by William S. Helton
and "Canine Olfaction Science and Law" by Tadeusz Jezierski

these are all pretty pricey though so before I purchase another of these I wanted to see if anyone here has read any of these or can point me towards resources that have what I am looking for. For context, the type of work we are doing involves working transects both on and off leash to find fallen bat carcasses on wind farms. However, I am also interested in dipping my toes in avalanche rescue as I know some people that could get us involved in that or starting him on another odor in the future since he is so young; so any information on this topic would be of value to me. Thanks in advance.
