A fence is only as good as a dogs desire to jump it,
In the real world, if an intruder comes onto your property, many times, as is witnessed by many a 911 call, the police are a good 15 minutes out, with your dog locked safely away in it's kennel, what do you do? And better yet, what CAN your dog do?
Your child goes missing, is your dog trained to find an article going to find that child because he was trained to carefully seek out an article thru a carefully layed scent pad, or is the dog that was trained to use any means of detection possible, be it ground or air going to be your best choice.
is that intruder, if having a gun going to stand there for 15 minutes in a bark and hold while police arrive how ever long later it takes them, or is it better to have your dog over the fence, that normally contains them quite nicely, run them off, than promptly return when you call them back, and wait with you,
your child is playing in the yard, his family dog is there with him, a stranger approaches, that same family pet, raised with that child is going to alert to the stranger and let them know, do not come any closer.
i don't know how many times strangers have pulled in my driveway at all hours of the night where my dogs have gone over the fence and surrounded the vehicle not allowing it s passengers to exit the vehicle, and upon inquiry, they have no reasonable answer for who or what they were looking for.
were they just innocent lost individuals, who knows, who wants to find out the hard way. just the impression of a force to be reckoned with is a welcome sight in my eyes. a german shepherd is not supposed to be a vicious man eater, but a dog that that will be there if need be, regardless of the need.
at the same time, when the grandkids show up, it is nothing but, hooray, glad to see you, c'mon, lets play ball, hike the trails, or just lay around the swingset.
a true well bred german shepherd, raised properly is an asset to anyone lucky enough to share their life with him.
how many points he achieves in a competition is no where near the reality of how the dog should be judged for real life readiness.

Koots so true. Why can't a person come here and say what they like even if it is not what YOU like.
The challenge will be if others can come here and say what they like without anyone saying that they do not like what another person likes.
Seems like a simple task anyone up to the challenge

LIke to see any of that famous fancy kennels who testing dogs on real serious guarding I have asked this 20 times or so , There will be some very good serious natural guard dogs, but today almost nobody in
the sport world realy show this to the public.
The only people who do some serious business are the russian also have seen some people in Czech and Hongary but they are not flashy sport dog trainers
for most of the people not interesting enough this is the sad part.
Kangals,Owscharkas ,Black russian terriers breeds like this have this almost today in natural in their genes
not destroyed by sport and show trainers, breeders
For a serious home protector my eye wouldn,t on the GSD or Malinois, I don,t say they don,t excist, my point is almost nobody test real protection or guarding on a high level any more . And maybe the most important thing
is proper people who realy/ understand this"game" they are rare also

Most likely neither dog will find that child because neither dog has been trained as an area search dog to search for human scent.
That being said, it doesn't mean that the dog trained to track isn't capable of becoming a search dog and a lot of search dogs are also trained in article search.
As for an intruder held by a dog in a bark and hold, there have been multiple cases in Germany where this actually happened and where the owners have been charged with "wrongfully imprisoning" a person, even though the intruder broke into their apartment or house in the first place. But yeah, there have been cases where dogs held people in the house (where they had to lock themselves into a bathroom etc) and then sued the homeowners AND WON.
