Is my dog bicolor - Page 1

I'm new to this and just wondered if anyone can help me with is my dog bicolor

Which one ?

 

I'd say (not being able to see both ends of him*) that he(?) is a 'blanket backed' black & tan in most peoples' eyes, rather than a 'true' bicolour. He does not look as though he has black 'pencil marks' on his front toes. *If he was standing so we could see if he has 'pencilled' heels and a tan 'vent' under his tail, then maybe more would be inclined to see him as a bicolour;  but really, it's all Black and Gold under the Standard, which makes no mention of any such patterns as saddle-backed, blanket-backed, or bi-colour, these being fanciers' inventions.  Blankets versus bi is an old, old division, completely down to the observers point of view - some will see it one way, some the other !

Melanistic black and tan, I'd say, due to throat latch and facial markings. Can't see belly or feet well enough.

Appears no penciled toes and if any tan hairs behind the ears then thats a for sure no, a genitic bi-color will never have tan behind the ears, take a better picture on cement not on grass of feet and also take a close up pic of the back of the ears

Melanistic B&T to my eyes.  I have one at home and most people mistake him for a bicolor.

Thanks for answering guys I don't know how to put new pics on with my comment I'm a bit of a dinosaur with technology lol but he has black toes on front legs and the back of his back legs are black but tan at the bottom front with black toes and tan under his tail and defo no tan behind the ears if anyone can advise how to put pics on from a iPhone then I can

He's a bi-color as he has the tan eye dots above his eyes, tan on his throat, upside triangles of tan on his chest and tan on his legs. A melanistic black and tan would be the same as extended blanket black and tan, and has tan all along the belly starting from the chest going back to under the dog's tail. This is my Husky GSD mix Daisy who is a melanistic black and tan so you can the difference:

If he does have black marks on his front toes, black marks at the back of his rear feet, very little tan on his belly, AND a tan vent under his tail - none of which were in evidence (as I pointed out ^^) in your photo, - then I would swing towards Bicolour. The eyebrow dots and throat patch are not diagnostic, both blanket/melanistic B&T and bicolours can have those, in fact some bicolour dogs have entirely black heads (but still have the: tan feet with pencilling, tail vent, etc.); FWIW

I'm with Hund.  This is my bicolor with his black face (homozygous masked -Em/Em), pencilled toes and tar heels.
