German shepherd breeders specially ddr pls answer - Page 1

Guys i have question, is the pure DDR, has new showline type. DDR is working dog but a breeders told me there is new type of ddr, it looks like a showline german shepherd but much bigger. Is that true? Should i classified DDR with workline or with showline?.if its not correct , Pls give me the name of your kennel because i need sth to prove. Thanks for you attentions.

some people breed what they call, old german shepherd, using both show and workingline oversized and also longhaired dogs, maybe that is what is referred to

The Berlin Wall has been down for 30 years. There is NO 'DDR -bred true to type' style of GSD anymore. There is no specifically East German breeding, there are just some breeders located in the east of Germany; and not all breeders claiming to breed 'DDR' (based) lines are in Germany at all, they are in Czech or Serbia or the States, or even in the case of at least one member of this forum the UK ...
So it follows there cannot really be a 'new' type of DDR GSD, either.

This breed is full of people who think they can make money out of making adjustments to the basic recipe.

I have learnt the hardway the temperament and structure has completely changed, the DDR was a type not a bloodline that why you may see some west line out cross like Bernd vom Lierberg

There are what i consider pure DDR dogs still. They may not be being bted for same purpose, but there are still a handfull of breeders that are preserving the lines. Its not that hard to figure out which ones are still full DDR dogs. The wall may be gone but if your breeding from specific lines, then your going to keep that same type. at least thats the way i see it. Specific lines are specific lines, does it really matter the region they are bred from?

Look at the old ddr dogs and look at the current ones structurally forget about temperament wise that has changed as well.

clearly if you look at some of the most well known DDR dogs of the past, they were not these big over built dogs as many believe they were, and you can see quite a number of todays dogs that are being bred off the old lines have quite a bit of the similarities as before, 

      I am a big fan of the DDR German Shepherd. There are still plenty of options for someone looking for  a dog like the old dogs they remember. Yes, there are alot that are watered down, but ain t that true in al the lines, actualy, in all the breeds. So many require the new and improved versions that they not only advertising full DDR, when in fact they are not, I found one breeder whose dogs didn t have even the slightest  tidbit of DDR in there.

    You just got to know what your looking for, and where to look.
