Removing Cryptorchidism - Page 1

I have a bitch that I was told comes from a line knowing to have retained testicles. The uncle of my bitch was a cryptorchid and thus removed from the gene pool. (Rightfully so.) I have put a lot of time into my bitch including earning a BH and OB1 and hoping to get an IPO1 before she is turns 3.

Obviously, the right thing to do would be to spay my bitch and call it a day. However, she is a very exceptional dog and I would hate for her genetics to go to waste. I understand the seriousness of the gene and it is a nasty game to play with. But I was wondering if it would be worth it to “kick it out if the lines” so to speak. My females littermate has both testicles and seems to be a great representation of the lines he comes from as well.

Hopefully without anyone getting nasty, what would be a way I can accomplish such a task. And how can I go about it?

My girl has never been bred. Neither has her brother as they are only just coming up on 2 years old.

Unfortunately I am not 100% sure within the lines the gene came from. But through doing research on my own I have a very good idea.

Anyways, feedback would be great. This is not something I’m set on, just more of a what if and what precautions should I take?

In the worst case a couple of chryptorchides in your litters...

I am a GSD enthusiast, so no clue about genetics in Malinois lines, sorry.

Personally I'd train, trial, compete, health test - afterwards I'd decide if my female is worth the risk.

Yes unfortunately that could very well happen. Which is why I would like to know if there is a way to cull it out of the lines. I have had prelims done on my bitch at 11 Months. But nothing else yet as she is just shy of 2 years.

I definitely agree with health testing, trialing and making sure she is still a fine example of the breed. Thanks so much for your input.

if a female met all other requirements, I would not wash her out for this reason. maybe if every male in litter was crypto, or maybe even if she produced a high percentage then don't breed her again.

there are no perfect dogs. you know about this issue, many times it's issues not known that spoil a breeding.

That is definitely a positive way to look at it. Which I was thinking well maybe I should consider a breeding and keep all puppies on “limited registration” to make sure that all male puppies in the litter had both testicles.

Either way if my bitch is spayed or not I will still be competing with her.

If I do do a breeding and it doesn’t look good she would be spayed. But I will definitely look for lines similar to hers as I really enjoy how she is put together.

Since her mom was initially washed from the importers breeding program for the littermate having one testicle and I guess they were also missing teeth and the bitch had weak environmentals but was strong in drive and grip. This is something I don’t want to take lightely.

I had seen another littermate (dams littermate) that has offspring so I guess it would be a good idea to contact them to see if the issue came up in that litter.

It’s just crazy to have such a vast difference in puppies from a litter. I mean my girl has all her teeth, is very strong in drive and nerve. Makes me wonder of all the dogs that were bred that maybe weren’t a great representation of the breed themselves but ended up being awesome producers. Guess it can happen. Anyways. Thanks for the advice. Like mentioned above. This is not something I am set on, I just want to think of all my options.
