I would really appreciate someone telling me if 18 lbs is a normal weight for a five month old female German Shepherd.I bought her a month ago from someone who couldnt keep her anymore, and had her checked for worms everything negative, she has papers but nothing well known in her background.Could this just be a slow growing puppy or a real small runt?

Lisa, my male cat weighs 18.5 lbs. How tall is your puppy? Is this your first GSD? How much has she grown in the month that you have had her? She may be a dwarf. Do a search for dwarf GSD & compare your puppy with them. Let us know what you come up with.

Hi lisa, I checked my pups records and at 10 weeks he was 15lbs...he was the 2nd smallest of his litter..so I do think that is a bit small...I read on another board there is a dwarf shepherd...I will try to find out how big he was at that age..

ok I checked for you..at 3 months he was 8lbs..and at 4 months he is 15lbs...so it sounds about the same as your girl... good luck and let us know. if you go to http://www.gsdworld.net/invboard/index.php?act=ST&f=11&t=8318&hl=hercules&s=84f4362311cf3e78ef832db8adb031f0 this link you can follow Hercules' story..

My female is 5 1/2 months and 47 lbs. Her litter brother is 51 lbs. I think she's very on the small side. My girl was that weight at 2 1/2 - 3 months.
