You should not only check the HD-Zuchtwert from those specific dogs you're looking for, but also from their whole family. The SV-Genetics is a great source for doing that. If you need help José, let me know, you've got my coordinates. Merry x-mas! (Soccer Worldchampionship is coming closer now! Will you be coming over?)

The Zuchtwert already IS a summary of a dogs "family".

by Jantie on 18 December 2005 - 11:12

The "Zuchtwert" in average ads up nothing more than approximately 3 dogs out of 10. The best three!! out of ten. So it tells you absolutely nothing! A vague indication from a couple of relatives only, will NOT give you the overall picture. Fill your swimmingpool with 33% of water, and look how comfy it is to swim in it. Don't forget, that approx. 40% of the water must be "muddy" (=dysplastic) water! Don't let them fool you José! Send me the names of the individual dogs you are looking for, and I will tell you exactly how many littermates, aunts and uncles were x-rayed, and what their HD-results were, and those from their relatives. You will be surprised at the outcome.

The Zuchtwert will most definitely change EVERY time EVERY sibling to dog X is a-stamped, and every time any other offspring of the dog Xs parents is a-stamped. It changes the Zuchtwert of all offspring and it also changes the Zuchtwert of the parents. The muddy theory is nothing but dirty water indeedy.

Hello Jantie, Thanks for the support you gave me at the site. Hip Displasia is really serius to me, I agree with you when you say there is more displasic dogs that we think, lets work on that! I am trying to breed only the best dogs in this specific aspect, I think thats not right to spend so much money with a litter and then not to have a chance of keep the dogs because they are displasic. This makes me very mad. To tell you how unhappy I was, I had research about belgium shepherds because they are less affected, then I saw the GSD was really my passion, since 1993, I have many friends in this circle, and I decided to get in the fight! I just gave as presents for friends most of my dogs. Now, last year I am trying to get a line with less problems, so I have Kora do Vale do Mosel, wich comes from a line that I believe is less affected, but because of its age was not Xrayed yet. I also plan to use Bexter Danishenhof, what do you think?

D.H. Says: The Zuchtwert will most definitely change EVERY time EVERY sibling to dog X is a-stamped, and every time any other offspring of the dog Xs parents is a-stamped. ********************** All you have to do(if you subscribe to the SV-Genetics CD) is pick a dog(or dogs), and track that dog(those dogs) and each subsequent CD you receive, you will see those ZW numbers(values) changing, climbing in value, towards the 100(normal) interger. I know this because I track my own dogs every month(just to track the trend in their families), in addition to my research of other dogs. If you don't notice the change on EVERY subsequent release, it only means no siblings for that dog you were tracking were added to the database, the preceeding 3 months. With D.H.'s sage contribution to this forum, one(if being honest with one's self) cannot truthfully, and factually say that she is trying to, "fool someone". That insinuation was not warranted. I personally know she is not on that level(of pettiness). You know there is a huge learning curve to maximizing one's understanding of the SV-Genetics CD, HD and the ZW numbers and how they all come together to make a comprehensive, collective impact on our breeding programs AND our dogs. It would seem to me, this conversation could be carried out in a way that ALL(most of all the German Shepherd) could benefit from the edification that can result from a clear headed, unbias discussion that is free of sarcasism. If individuals have knowlege to share, lets all share in it together for the collective good. Short, trite ambushes, because someone has something to add to a discussion, or disagrees with a certain point of view that another has espoused, accomplishes absolutly zilch, zero, nada. Although GREAT dogs were bred(out of the art form) before the computer and the SV-Genetics CD arrived on the scene, this subject is far more important than ANYONE'S ego. Come on.....let's sit down at the table together on this one. Thanks. Stephen

Hello Stephen, When I posted this topic I didnt want to cause any fight, and until now, I didnt think I had. I thought the words said were just people trying to express their point of view. I understand that the no one wanted to hurt each other! Merry Cristmas!
