Can someone provide me with a name of a good nutrition book for my GSD? Well, till now, I am feeding my dog with half liter milk every morning with 7-8 bread slices, some curd with water in the noon & roti's with 400gm - 500gm boiled beef in the night. Ofcourse with the necessary supplements. Please advise if the above is enough for a GSD or something extra needs to be done. I am open to any kind of advise which is the best for my GSD. ps:...i am going to start feeding BRIT from the next month.

http://www.royal-canin.com/actualites/gb_pdt_berger.asp Go to the above website. If the dog is a puppy, they also make a puppy formula. I normaly mix 4-1 the puppy formula with the adult formula for German Shepherds, for my puppies.

http://k-9kraving.com/pages/main.html Go to this website. I know of many great SchH GSDs that are on this food and are doing great. I'll be feeding this to my Police Dog onc eI can get to MI to pick some up. And, one of dogs has IBD and know of some IBD dogs that have been on numerous foods and once put on this food, they've done great.

Prasac, you shouldn’t give milk if your puppy is older then 5 weeks. Give Kefir instead, if you know what it is. It is like liquid yogurt with life cultures in it. Also, if you decide to give bread (which is not the best idea either), make sure it is whole grain bread, not white. Try to make some oats for him/her, and add shredded vegetables and herbs, such as carrots and dandelion leaf (lots of vitamins B and A). An egg now and then is very good, but do not overdo (no more then 3 eggs per week for a puppy). Also, why do you give boiled beef? Raw beef is better. You should avoid raw pork and raw fresh water fish though. I hope this helps, good luck.

Prasac, I feed Eagle Pack, it is a great food for anything, improves coat and many other problems. chwatts as for Blackwood--- that is trash food, it is made at the same place Ol Roy is made, actually it is Ol Roy with added supplements and some probiotics. It is made by Doanne Pet Foods which makes most of the trash foods.

Hi Bestdog I also feed Eaglepack, so do many friends. Excellent food! One of the few pet food companies that has their own meat rendering plant. And one of the first to preserve the food naturally and to add beneficial supplements. Start pups with small breed puppy (yellow bag) from 4 to 8-12 weeks, depending on how big pups are. Then put them on the Original Kennel Pack (blue bag) for the first year, if they can handle it they can stay on it as long as they are active and working/showing. If it becomes too rich then go to the Natural Formula (purple bag). When you feed a good quality food like Eagle, do not add or mix with other food stuff, except for a few (A FEW!) treats. The ready made pet food is specially formulated to give the dogs all they need. Some raw bones excluded for chewing and cleaning teeth. When we give meaty bones, we feed no dog food that day, but we may put peanut butter into the bones cavities, and give some fruits or veggies that day. Frozen bananas are popular in summer. Raw carrots is pretty much the only thing we give inbetween all the time and the odd pigs ear. Prasac - Eagle is very good about setting up new distributors. You could become their importer for your region. Their site provides contact info such such endevours: http://www.eaglepack.com/pages/international_dist.html Royal Canin still uses soy in their food, which is known to have a negative effect on a dogs thyroid. They also recommend a puppy food for a GSD that is way too much with a whopping 32% protein. I have heard people being happy with the GSD formula, but I would stay away from such high percentage puppy foods.

thanks to all of you for the suggestions. I have read many articles on various websites about feeding raw meet to GSD's. I have been feeding raw chicken & mutton to my dog but not very often. However, being in India, feeding raw beef doesn't seem safe. I have heard from the beef sellers themselves that breeders who buy from them, do feed boiled beef & give their dogs a raw bone now & then. D.H., thanks for your advice on becoming an Importer of the Eagle food. The thought did strike me before. I am not a breeder & am (you can say) just a starter for GSD breeding & stuff. Will see what future has in for me. Thanks all. PS: any books recommended?!?
