Rik

several forums I visit (Jeep, 4 wheel drive, college football) have "Sticky" threads at the top that always pop up at the top.

every page here has posts from folks who got ripped, at times from ads here.

after the fact, there are always helpful people with advice but too late to help what has already happened.

and I do realize that most people that got jobbed start looking after the fact, but I'm just curious if a "Sticky" can't be started here so people with positive (or negative) experience willing to share can post.

and maybe those doing research before the fact can stumble across.

just asking, cause many years ago I stumbled across this site. did not know sh## about the German GSD.

ended up with a U.S. Regional Siegerin and a kick azz conformation pup (burned out too soon). and I do mean a pup that kicked azz from people/dogs that traveled half a world to meet him.

the ad I found him was here.

I went to Germany for my Wandy. Stood in the rain and cold for 2 days to see her in the 3rd ring (18-24) or whatever that class is.

and every move and contact was made from Oli's site.

curious,
Rik

Rik, so you didn't have Fred's help in finding her? (I'm sure you got him to chip in his 2 cent's worth!)

Both my most recent dogs have come from this site, too. The first one wasn't quite what I was looking for, but that was more due to my lack of knowledge than anything else.

Fred was at the Sieger with a tour group I think, but I was at the "this is what I can afford ring".

it was a few months before the owner would sell her.

but, no, it's just like I said, everything I did "German" started 100% after doing an internet search and finding this site.

I really appreciate and value Fred's knowledge and assistance over the years and certainly would have asked him to look at her, but honestly, there is so much going on and so many rings and everything happening so fast that you just have to be standing there at that moment.

I have always kind of had my own ideas of what might win in conformation and what I like. It's different for everybody I guess.

His house was the first stop I made after I got her though.Thumbs Up

and just to add, no one got to see the Javir daughter I found on here. she died from a botched surgery after 1st. heat.

Fred did go with me to evaluate her.

Oh, that's so sad, Rik!  Sad Smile

I might have lost Star from her spay surgery, if I hadn't had medical training, and convinced the vet to go back in and stop the bleeding he was telling me 'not to worry' about!  Omg Smile

He killed a friend's dog when he did an emergency spay on her for pyometra, and she bled out afterwards. Sad Smile

A lot of vets don't realize spaying a 2 year old (or older) bitch isn' the same as spaying one that's never been in heat, or had pups!

the vet showed me the x-ray and told me she had swallowed a stick, pointed to it on the x-ray. it was the next day before he opened her up and it was pyo. Paid him $1700.00, brought her home and put her in a crate.

all vets are not equal.

next morning she had opened up and was gone. something really hard to describe.

I'm so sorry, Rik!
That sounds horrible.

Needless to say, I switched vets after what happened with Star.

We get a lot of scammers here and no matter how hard we try, we can't find them all and when we do they just come back as someone else. I have said since day one that Oli needs to charge a small fee to advertise, it may stop some of the scammers but probably not the rip off jobs. It could at the very least give us a credit card number/name to try and stop the BS. People who are scamming won't want to place ads if they have to give up their credit card number. Besides if you aren't willing to pay a small fee to advertise dogs/litters then your puppies probably aren't worth buying, I do believe 2 things would likely happen, better quality dogs for sale and a lot less ads. JMO!

Rik, that is truly awful ! I had not heard those details before; I know time has gone by, but genuinely "Sorry for your Loss". Linda.

I dunno whether the 'sticky' thing would work though. Even though for some time there has been a specific Scams forum section here, people often still bring their posts to the General section first. And wouldn't one 'sticky' topic get awfully complicated ? Plenty of threds now get quite confused 'cos members don't just add to the one scamming advertiser / breeder, but bring different cases & scammers in for comparison, and the details end up getting mixed with those of the OPs, especially when the threds get longer and folk don't read all the contributions.

Yeah, I wonder if it would work too. It could get rather messy over time.

I do like the idea of charging for ads! The cost for a premium ad on here is quite low, and I was very willing to pay it the one time I had a co-owned litter for sale.
