Dawn G. Bonome

It looks like there is a lot of cheating going on with some of the breeders from Europe.

I wish the ethical breeders/trainers would come back on here, and post like they used to. ( A long time ago!)

As a GSD owner for many years, I feel bad when I see a person getting cheated, when a lot of ethical breeders or Trainers could have Personal messaged them or answered them on the message board, and people would take their advice.

Can the GSD Community now stick together, and mention ALL the ethical breeders out there so the heartbreak for people and the poor dogs, are no longer victims of these crooks and it stops. (LET THE BUYER BEWARE)

I am going to ask.. where can a person get/find a German Shepherd dog in the good old USA first,
and Germany..second.

I hope this post helps someone out there!

Kind of hard to make a list of much use   To many people and to many stories  What one likes the other does not and who is to say what is a good person to buy from or sell to.

It is still best that if you are unsure or just want to double check, then come here and ask if anyone else knows the person you working with and get the feedback.

I think it would be good to list breeders and let people come to their own conclusions. You can usually tell if a person is on the up and up. Just have to do your homework.
I would not want any people to come on here and and bash any person. When a problem arises with a dog health wise, most breeders do pre testing before the mating is done.
Every dog that I have gotten was healthy, but sometimes mother nature throws you a curve, and it is no fault of the breeder.

As I learn more I see a lot of people that get ripped do high risk  online bargain hunting from the internet for a quick return on puppy sales.

Often a case of scammers scamming scammers.

And, the ones who pay the biggest price for these scams and rip offs, if you do get a dog, is the dog.
It's horrible when you read and hear so many unhealthy and unwanted pups get sent to peopie.
All pups should arrive at their new homes to new owners overjoyed at their arrival, not greeted with scowels and contempt for what they received, waiting on the sideline while it is determined what should be done with this poor specimen of the breed.
Shame on any breeder that won t stand behind what they produce.
Your dogs are the true victims.

PS Dawn....there are quite a few threads where people have asked who the best shoreline breeders are, from personal experience, I highly recommend Bullinger Shepherds, none more devoted...
Working line,Spitzenhund....Parrish is a total stand up guy, goes above and beyond, if ever again I buy a pup...Parrish is where I am going.
And, I got my full DDR pup from Anton German Shepherds....exactly what was represented, no BS along the way, knows his dogs, and all three of these ...we're and are readily available , years later.
Every dog should be so lucky to have them as "their"agents.

I wrote this almost one year ago:
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/community.read?post=855300-buying-dogs-from-europe

but VK is right, it´s not only about the sellers, it´s about the buyers, too.

All these cheap "pregnant brood bitches" advertized (and sold) - for what?
One female bought for $ 2.500 - 3.000, 6 puppies sold for $ 12.000 - who cares about quality?

Biggest problem I see with breeding is that reputation outweighs what is currently being produced. Too often people will just recommend their buddies and friends rather than sticking with what they consider “proper breeding.” Another issue is when someone who has had one experience with a breeder, and it’s a good one, they recommend that breeder. Yet others who may have worked/seen multiple dogs from that kennel will think otherwise. I’ve also seen how often a person with “pet knowledge” will think a dog is a good dog when in reality it’s nervy and someone with a tad bit more experience would see that. Overall, way too many issues and we are way too subjective in order to provide a list without it becoming something that heads in a negative way.

If people would sign on and just ask the question about a good breeder in their state or general location, they’d get the information they need. Too often they just look at the classifieds, find what they want, and only after they have an issue are they posting. I’ve been a part of boards where they wouldn’t allow negative information about a breeder due to risk of libel which prevents anyone with that negative information from sharing it. I’ve also seen where people will recommend breeders they’ve never met, never met their dogs, have no real relationship with them, and just know them through the internet or through a board…making the value of that recommendation not really what it seems. It’s really not that hard to find a good dog these days, you just have to do the research before you buy and not after.

Bavarian Wagon,

If a person is breeding, GOOD DOGS, with HEALTH first, and with a stable mind, that is what I go with. If more than one person, has had success with that breeder, that is a big plus!!
I have owned a German Shepherd since 1985..and it is let the buyer beware!!
I used to be on here quite a bit, but got off of here because of the rudeness of some posters, and the people that were looking for answers, never got a true answer due to posters arguing with each other over their answer.

Thanks for you input!

I can only attest to the dogs I got from the kennels I bought from.
I know over the years here, I learned a lot, almost "despite' some posters here.
I took the information provided, and added it to my own research and made educated decisions on which dogs I liked and what kennel and which breeders were those with integrity.
I have been more than happy with the dogs I have and very satisfied with the assistance of those I got them from.
I certainly ain t the expert some of "you people's think you are, but I know enough.
I find it tough to find friends in the breeder business, too many with the, my dog better than your dog complex.
I have found a few tho....Parrish..above and beyond. You get by with a little help from your friends.
