Mindhunt

by Mindhunt on 01 July 2013 - 20:07

I was recently emailed this from a friend (after some research, found it was introduced last year).

I am sure this will prompt some interesting discussion.  (P.S. not pointing fingers at anyone)

Wink Smile

TO: All Senate Members
FROM: Senator Nina Turner
DATE: March 2, 2012

I will be introducing a bill to address an issue that has gone unaddressed for far too long. The diligence with which men in state legislatures across the nation have considered the fragile health and feeble minds of women has prompted me to reflect on the welfare of the more powerful breed: men. This legislation will take strong steps to protect men from the harmful effects of [EDM] PDE-5 inhibitors (phosphodiesterase type 5). PDE-5 inhibitors are prescribed to men who are experiencing symptoms of male impotence and carry serious side effects such as priapism, hearing loss, and vision loss. Such medications should be considered with the utmost concern and caution. These medications can be seriously detrimental to men with heart problems, including heart pain (angina), heart failure, abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), high or low blood pressure, a history of stroke within the last six months, eye problems such as retinitis pigmentosa, sickle cell anemia, or leukemia.

The legislation will implement procedures that will ensure the vigorous reproductive health of men who experience non-psychological erectile dysfunction symptoms. This means that men will have to certify their impotence, confirm their comprehension of risk, and undergo outpatient counseling services to inform them of alternative treatment options to PDE-5 inhibitors.

Please join us in this fight to protect those who are our greatest protectors. The men in our lives generously devote time and debate to fundamental female reproductive issues; the least we can do is return the favor.

Senate Bill 307 protects men by requiring the following prior to receiving a prescription to treatment for erectile dysfunction:

  • a signed affadavit from at least one sex partner confirming the man has indeed experienced the symptoms of impotence in the past 90 days
  • a psychological screening with a licensed practicing psychologist to ensure the condition is, in fact, medical in nature
  • ongoing cardiac stress tests and outpatient counseling about potential side effects
  • information from the prescribing physician about risks, complications as well as non-medical options including counseling and celibacy
  • copy of medical rationale for treatment filed in patient’s medical record
Her press release
“When a man makes a crucial decision about his health and his body, he should be fully aware of the alternative options and the lifetime repercussions of that decision,” Senator Turner said today. Men will be more easily guided through the process of obtaining treatment for impotence so they can better understand and more effectively address their condition".
In recent peer reviewed empirical research, there is strong evidence that EDM is being misused by men who have no history of ED.  The misuse percentage has reached that of cocaine or methamphetamine.  Misuse is strongly correlated with risky behavior; drug and alcohol use; and increased instances of HIV, AIDS, and other STDs/STIs.

Mindhunt, let me first say, well, LOL.

However, I do remember watching one of those emergency room, real-life TV shows, and well, there is evidence there, that certain ingestible aids manufactured just for men, are being abused!  Teeth Smile

Carlin

Absolutely; the life experience, judgement, and maturity of what is typically a 50+ year old man can't be all that much different than that of 12 year old girl.  Roll eyes

I think it's funny.
And a waste legislation.
But hey, give em what they want, even if it kills them, as long as there is a profit somewhere.
Instead of removing them from the market.
Pay attention to side effects next time you see a commercial for any of this crap they are selling to the public, you can find relief if you live long enough, but it's all pretty temporary in that respect.

Three cheers for Nina Turner's sense of humour in wrapping
this Bill up in the misuse of V****a   ("other similar Internet-ready
products are available").

Mindhunt, it would be hard to forget that episode, LOL  If it was the same one, you will remember the new doctor in training who was "handed' the job to maintain pressure until they could prepare to operate! And they chatted like ol' school chums all the while, just to pass the time. It was fascinating. Teeth Smile

Yeah, I don't really want to imagine what that guy was going through, for days I think it was? And the cure was none to pleasant sounding, either! Didn't he have like two girl friends who showed up and didn't know about each other? But by the end of the show they were plotting against him? LOL
