Harassment by IRS. I think it is a good tactic, that use, is a brilliant expression of any presidents power. I just spent 15 minutes holding with the IRS, to be told they won't talk to me. My son received a letter saying he needed to respond to the letter, or they wouldn't process his return. I thought I was done with that! I was like, but I am his mother and he has no clue about anything, he's sixteen!

So now while I wait for a return phone call, I sent everything to our CPA and hope they can figure this out. I told the snotty lady on the phone at IRS I wanted to talk to a manager, this was ridiculous if the goal was to actually figure out how to answer their question. I'll get a call back within 4 hours. Probably while I am taking my shower.

OMG!

Bee,  I hope you haven't posted anything too patriotic or anti-Obama or you may be in for an audit! LOL.

Micaho,
I can't believe this...! That is the thing... they are going after the freakin' kid!  Ugh.... I think I know my error, or the CPA's error..... He only has unearned income, but since he was old enough to sign his name, I had him sign the tax return instead of signing it as the parent, for him...

.... geeze... does any of this help me???

HELP!!!!!!

by beetree on 21 May 2013 - 11:05

So, now I am going to have to have my minor son, sign over Power of Attorney to me, so I, his own mother, can talk to the IRS?

This is too much.

There must be some sort of Power of Attorney form I can print off ... anyone know? My girlfriend is a notary, that should help?

Bee, Sorry I can't figure out much from the instructions.  If you filed this way before, it might be a math error.  Is your son owed a refund, or did he have to pay additional tax?  The worst case scenario probably can't even be that bad, so try not to worry.  Although a letter from the IRS can be upsetting, for sure.

They aren't talking to me Micaho, LOL!  I think they want proof of an estimated tax payment from 2012... I have a copy of the check.... but the preparer had it too, so maybe he can figure out what went awry? I already paid what he owed so, or so I thought!  I don't know if they want to refund him, or if they want to penalize him for not paying enough...hmmm?

I probably signed the form as his parent last year, but even so.... they never sent me a letter before!  Oh well, shower time... they'll be calling as soon as I put the shampoo in my hair, I know it!

I've never had a problem with a tax form, even when I was in business.
My kids have been doing their own for many years now as well.

I can see the need for help in some situations but letting someone else do your taxes is a serious business.

And sorry but I don't think Obama had anything to do with the IRS scandal.

"Be On the Look Out" list, or a BOLO, which was discontinued in 2012, according to the report. The criteria on the BOLO included:

  • Whether "Tea Party," "Patriots" or "9/12 Project" was referenced in the case file.
  • Whether the issues outlined in the application included government spending, government debt or taxes.
  • Whether there was advocating or lobbying to "make America a better place to live."
  • Whether a statement in the case file criticized how the country is being run.
  • Whether it advocated education about the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
