Anyone ever heard of Language Corps?  My niece is now working for them.  It sounds fishy but I couldn't find too much other than their website and a few comment sites.  She paid for her own classes to learn their way of teaching English to children in other countries then had to raise her own money to fly out to where she was assigned and for the first lodging.  Apparently the next phases of transportation and lodging come out of her pay.  1st stop Phnom Penh, now Singapore.  In each place she stays a couple weeks to teach English to school children.  Just a bad feeling although she has had a great time so far.

A friend's daughter that I've known since age 1 went to Japan a few years ago with her husband, who was teaching English.  They paid their way there and it sounds like the same deal.  He made money, but she hated being that far from home, so it only last for about 6 months.  It's dangerous to travel in foreign countries, but it's also dangerous to travel here in the US, if you don't know what you're doing.  If she has street smarts along with a good dose of precaution, she should be okay.  Gotta let them grow up at some point, as scary as that can be at times.

GSD - my niece has been on her own since she turned 16 after her mother died suddenly and tragically shortly after her and my niece had a huge fight, never got to make up.  Her mother was engaged to my brother and died, because we were not family, we were not allowed to take her in and she went to live with her idiot, self-centered, drunkard of a father and step-mother who hated my niece because she saw her as competition for male attention.  They blew her mother's wrongful death settlement (they got custody) and when she turned 18 kicked her out without a penny.  By this time my niece got heavily into drugs (trying to drown out the pain and is currently drug free).  I am not worried about her ability to care for herself (I tried to be there for her no matter what) but she can make silly decisions as many her age can do (got to love the undeveloped frontal lobes that deal with forethought, planning, consequence awareness, etc).  I just wanted to make sure it was legit and she didn't get herself into something she will have a heck of a time getting out of.  So far she still owes for everything, reminds me of those old company towns where people go into debt because everything is company owned.  I just have a bad feeling.....
