Please watch the entire video and park your partisanship.  We are all Americans, remember that.

Travels - not everyone participating in this board IS American, 'remember that' !

Nonetheless, thanks for sharing this video.  Very interesting.  Sure raises more
questions than it answers, that is a fact.

I'm not watching the video, but IMO concerning drone strikes, they are as much a part of war as foot soldiers on the ground.  This idea that we can send them around the world and strike anybody anywhere at anytime with no repurcussions from the rest of the world is drawing to an end I think.

If they're using them on Americans, I think they need to be done just like any other survellience should be done.  Get the court order, prove it's worth, and it should be restricted to areas, whom, when, what, why etc, like any other search must prove.  Or is supposed to prove.

I watched the whole thing. Interesting. There is a three part test that determines this decision is lawful, and there is wiggle room for interpretation. I believe that will be the big fuss. Why the big-wig anonymous tipster of the secret existence or non-existence of a secret memo to a reporter is just ignored, is something to wonder about, too.

Or is the fuss going to be about using Drones, period, for killing specific targets. I think in war, you better do what you need to win. And that must be what Obama is thinking as well, in his duty as Commander in Chief. People were critical of him, weren't they, that he would not be tough enough or experienced enough to fulfill that role.

zdog,
you should have at least watched the video to make an informed comment.

Personally I think drone warfare as seen by the rest of the world is terrorism, and cowardly.
Not used in a real war or a legal war but our so called war on terrorism.
On the battle field it is just another weapon, off the battle field things change rather quickly.

That being said the American in question, and not on American soil was a terrorist, and I would think that nullifies his citizenship.
Hell we've been killing people in secret for decades, they kill some right out in the open that were citizens on US soil.
I think a tank at Waco against women and children in a wooden structure equals a drone strike on us citizens.

If you a US citizen are declared a terrorist you will not be given due process.

This legal angle is scary in that if they set a precedent it may spill over onto American soil.
They flew a drone over the bunker where the man had the child held hostage before he was killed and I'm not sure what kind of technology was onboard but that's definitely American soil.
Cops are using them too, along with Border patrol and Homeland Security.
They are being used commercially as well already in this country not sure where the FAA stands on regulations at this point.

I've had problems before with ultra-lites hovering over my home at low altitude, if they are within gun range they are in my airspace...

To kill an American on US soil with a drone would not be out of the question, bomb robots are already armed waiting for that command.

Drones used to enter foreign airspace to kill so called terrorists, without that countries consent, are creating more terrorists and risk more war, because there is collateral damage and dead civilians.

I see very little concern about what's legal or not in this country lately.

What'd ya think the consensus would be if Pakistan was using drones in the US to kill individuals they deemed were enemies?

by beetree on 06 February 2013 - 02:02

Let 'em try.

by joanro on 06 February 2013 - 02:02

That's my point, Bee. It's ok for the US to do it in other countries and not expect retaliation?
