A grand old lady,
but the royals seem no more than tourists in the real world.
Like a trip to the zoo to see the Elephant, yet they are the kept ones.
JMO.

Benny, it's here because my friend's husband is English and she sent it to me, this is the off topic section, and I shared it on behalf of the holiday message it contained.
Moons, I respect Queen Elizabeth but I also think that the royal family is just for publicity purposes and very expensive publicity in today's economic times.

When I lived in England quite a few years ago, I found the Brits had a love-hate relationship with the royal family. They were respectful of the queen and the institution of royalty but also felt that it was something that had outlived its usefulness but as long as they did not cause any disruption or make waves, they were happy to let things be. I don't know how they feel about the royal family today.
I do have to say that they are a stunningly dysfunctional family. Other than the queen who has been exemplary in both her public and private life, the rest of the royal family has been as dysfunctional as they come. The queen's sister, Margaret, divorced and then led a somewhat scandalous life. Three of her four children all had broken marriages: Charles/Diana/Camilla and Diana with her multiple lovers, Andrew and his messed up wife, Sarah Ferguson who is cordially disliked by most Brits, Anne who divorced her first husband and then did her own thing. Pretty amazing track record for just about everyone in the immediate royal family, other than the queen and her youngest son , to have broken marriages.
But I suspect that the royal family will be around a while....... probably because that love/hate relationship still continues.
