Sounds like a concept, who's the helper?

by SGBH on 06 June 2005 - 01:06

Visitor Friendly?!?!?!?!?!? What a concept! If you were not so far from Lonoke, Arkansas, I'd drop in for a visit. Visitor Friendly?!?!?!? Reminds me of the 1980s, when I was stationed in Germany....and felt welcomed!

by SGBH on 06 June 2005 - 01:06

We are just forming now, but we have been training in Quakertown one day a week and Lehighton one evening a week. Our first real "meeting" is tomorrow night in Lehighton, 5:30pm at Snyder's Tires on Rt. 443. One of our members owns the shop, which sits on 8 acres of commercial property, suitable for a training field/event location. I live about a mile up the hill from Snyders' shop, on 8 more acres. There are a lot of places around here for tracking. I think I even found some finely disked dirt down the street for starting young dogs and change of terrain for FH. In Quakertown, we have been meeting Saturdays (Sunday next week) at the Upper Bucks Working Dogs training field NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH UPPER BUCKS COUNTY SCHH CLUB: different place/people) After the first meeting we will probably change things some. Come on out. Bring your dogs, kids, friends, experience, successes, failures... but no greater ego than what might comfortably fit in an average-sized soda/beer can ;)

Who are your trainers/helpers? Are they experienced in Schh dogs? Police dogs? Have they titled anything themselves? Are they training helpers and/or trial helpers?

I'm all for new clubs. There seems to be a lot of interest in the region as well. I see there was a post looking for a club helper on this website from the club recently. Helper will be the main ingredient. If you don't have a qualified helper that knows how to read a dog and train it correctly, one that has expierience and results behind them, then you are probably doing more disservice than service to the organization. Clubs that have a volunteer put the sleeve on and work a dog have a dismal track record. Doug Wendling is in your area. He's a safe knowledgable helper that may be able to get you off to a good start. He can handle the range of dogs from new pup that needs encouragement to a working male.
