Depends on the cop, and who might mean him or her harm,
If someone selects you your a target, and all cops should realize this as part of the job.
Yes I think it is an effective method of protection.
Works for me anyway, seems to suit the president.

I posted this because we can't use our schools during vacation time, because we need a cop to keep out potential copy cat assault rifle wielding, mentally dangerous individuals.
This wasn't a concern when our founding fathers conceived a fear of further tyranny and their solution to prevent it. Now the tyrant isn't from those in power, it is all those with the power to take out two or three classrooms in under five minutes.
