Iowa HSB131 would exempt dairy farmers who sell raw milk from being regulated, licenses, or inspected, Food Safety News reports. Pathogens testing of the unpasteurized milk would not be required.
The topic of raw milk attracted both those firmly supportive and against the passage of the new law during committee meetings on Wednesday. Republican State Representative Jason Schultz supports giving constituents access to raw milk, according to the Daily Iowan.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that of 239 hospitalizations caused by tainted dairy products from 1993 through 2006, 202 involved raw milk or raw-milk cheese. Nearly two-thirds of the patients were younger than 20. "Parents go to raw milk because they hear it's good for kids' allergies," says Michele Jay-Russell, a veterinarian and food safety specialist at the University of California-Davis who has studied the outbreaks. But children's developing immune systems are more vulnerable than those of adults. "They end up sickening their kids," Jay-Russell adds.

Fans of raw milk—who tend to defend the stuff with near-religious fervor—often claim people get sick because they're not used to the "good" bacteria it contains. But Robert Ralyea, a food safety expert at Cornell University, says that it's key to distinguish between bacteria that might give you the runs for a few hours and pathogens that your immune system can't handle. "Even the highest standards of cleanliness can't entirely prevent contamination," he explains. Indeed, despite Organic Pastures' regular inspections, it has had four more recalls since 2006—including one last year after five kids fell ill from E. coli.
Seems to me that the decision to drink raw or pasteurized milk should be the result of research rather than fear induced. If one opts for raw milk, then the cleanliness of the dairy where it originates is of the utmost importance.

OK, WHY do kids have a "sanitized" immune system from probotics ? And HOW did that happen ?

Then again sick could mean different things to different people. Sick to me is high fever or bed ridden.
Christopher has been bed ridden and high fever once in his life @ age 3 - it turned out he is deathly allergic to peanuts. That was a scary night for me.
The only time I get a high fever is the day after leaving the doctors or dentists office. Or when I visit someone in the hospital - I spike a fever the next day. Why this is I dunno for sure, but it happens everytime. I've learned of a home made elixer to drink before my visits though, my Pappy is in and out of the doctors offices alot nowadays, he's 91, so I had to come up with something to keep the high fevers away.
I've never been bed ridden except for my horse accident in 2000 - I was paralyzed from the neck down for 8 1/2 months in the hospital. Other than that ... the only time I miss work is when I take off for my own reasons.
But no, we don't get sick from drinking RAW milk. I make everything home made that is created with RAW milk too (some things are required to sit on the counter or woodstove for 1-7 or 1-38 hours) - cheese, butter, buttermilk, yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta .. everything. (lol) You act like noone makes their own stuff anymore.

Although, I do know probiotics and live cultures alter the bowls in people who are not used to eating RAW milk products. It's not a bad thing, but I'm sure people freak out about it. What's happening is the live culture and probiotics are flushing out your system at a rapid pace (could be painful depending how bad the gut flora is). So, bad gut flora is very active to stay put I'm sure. LOL
I personally think the number one reason for all the colon diseases is the are directly related to "sterilized" immune systems. Humans (mammals especially) need good flora, live culture and probotics in the gut .. if you have bad flora infested guts your whole body will succumb to diseases. It's common sense. Hasn't anyone taken a milk bath before ? In layman words, what a milk bath (I'm talking real RAW milk bath here - not some crap bought and packaged for a store) actually does is draw out all the bad gut flora .. the bad flora wants to fight off the good flora so the bad flora leaves the body to fight with the good flora in your bath water. (LOL) They don't say "pasturized" milk does the body good ya know. They say milk. lol
That's just my opinion.
