Two Moons

by Two Moons on 03 May 2013 - 18:05

Yes,
if it had involved the child of another, that would be different.

But what purpose would be served by locking them up and separating them from each other, that's not the right approach at all.
Yes they will suffer forever, but hey should stay together not become wards of the state.

Idiots do stupid things everyday that cause harm to themselves and others.

I think your too quick to judge and sentence these people.

Bee,
your kidding right?

Bee,
you posted this because in your own words, this could have been prevented.

I disagree.

How could it have been prevented?

Moons.

I dunno Moons, I grew up with guns, handled them at an early age, but only with supervision.  My brother hunted when he was 8, he still hunts.  I was a better shot but I could never kill anything.  Hell, I don't even kill bugs, when it can be avoided.  Well, most bugs.  Okay, so I flush stink bugs, but those suckers are so offensive, and if you put them outside, they come right back in.  Those little bastards deserve to die, IMO. Tongue Smile

But anyway, back to the topic.  We never had access to guns when my father wasn't there.  My mother, on the other hand, couldn't shoot a gun to save her own life, so she wasn't good supervision and never handled them.  But they never bothered her being in the house, because there was never any threat either.  I used to sit and talk to my day when he skinned animals in the basement and then, cleaned his guns.  The oil smelled as sweet as those memories are.  And go figure, I was never in danger, nor in fear.

Guns are a right that carry a heavy responsibility and if you're not capable of living up to it, you shouldn't have guns.  Ditto swimming pools.  And automobiles.  An accident may not be on purpose, but there's usually fault, by way of negligence, somewhere along the line.  If we're going to be free to own and carry guns, we should be willing to live with the consequences.  They were negligent after encouraging a behavior in a child too young to understand.

The marketing itself I feel may be in bad taste, but then if it weren't, it wouldn't be marketing.  People are allowed to peddle their wares, as long as dishonesty is not involved.  They are not responsible for what the adults do after a purchase is made.  What difference would it have made if the gun had been black?  None.

*I just wanted to add that, if no jail time, they should, at the very least, never be allowed to own another weapon.

You see,
everyone wants the world to be fool proof and it is not, and should never be.

I know a man who ran over his childs foot with lawn mower and now has a one legged son.

Everything comes with responsibility Travels.

Travels said "The parents should be in jail, they were irresponsible"

You don't get incarcerated for being irresponsible; we'd have to allocate half of our land and economy to support the prison population.

I didn't say they should serve life, but they should be arrested (taken to jail) and charged.  Once in court, the level of their irresponsibility could be determined.

From what I gather, Kentucky lacks the firearm storage laws many other states have. The only course of action, would be for the whatever child care services there are to investigate whether or not they are fit to parent to the other child. Problem is, staying with those very parents is likely a better solution for the kid than being fed through the system.
