Sorry but in my opinion a dog that has no desire to chase/kill wildlife is an abomination of nature and has lost one of the most important survival instincts

what make you think, the dog without prey drive won't chase and kill?

Even my current, middle-aged, couch potato, pet-bred, "UK / Alsatian type" heap of white GSD wants to chase squirrels.

For what it's worth, " that (spayed) sable bitch" being scorned as the ruination of breed, has the same dam as this dog.

WTH? That ^^^ is the very *deffinition* of prey drive! Do you think chasing and killing is deffense, or what?

interesting, but there is a lot of variations on prey/hunt and posession, agree with valk, dogs that dont care about prey/ball can have exelent huntdrive on animals, same as dogs that dont have civil agression, can have food agression, or agression on other animals

Prey drive does not necessarily mean ball drive.
The picture of the dog hunting, then jumping up catching the decoy in the tree had almost no interest in the ball, had to use a bite tug and bite obedience exercises on the decoy to work him with any focus in obedience.
He would take off after a herd of deer in a heart beat! That's prey drive. He did not have ball drive, however.

Same for the gsd from many years ago that I referenced that squirrel hunted with me and retrieved the dead squirrels to hand, had absolutely zero ball interest/ drive.
But chasing and killing anything takes prey drive

i understand where from your believe came but there are thing called "desire to dominate" which rather is offensive temperamental behavior vs. more typical defensive response to irritant cause.
dog with such trait not necessary need to have a hunt motivation to perform attack and such attack (unlike hunt motivated), backed by dog's mind which set on overwhelmingly strong aggression feeling toward object of attack.

Agree, Valk. However, the dog must have had prior interaction to go after a person out of anger or aggression to dominate. Unless he is unstable and wants to attack all or any humans who are not a threat or causing the dog to be angered.
Agitating the dog that went after the decoy hiding in the tree is precisely what motivated the dog to hunt for the decoy and attack a seemingly passive target. That was not prey drive but anger and a dominant personality in the dog motivating his hunt and attack. I would add fight drive to the mix in said dog.

But to chase a herd of deer or rabbit with intent to catch and kill is prey drive..even in a dog without ball drive.
