Hired Dog

ali44, I am at a loss for words...sport training like IPO has nothing to do with real world training. Of course these dogs have different training, I hesitate to use the word "better" here, but, certainly different and more like a patrol dog, but enhanced.
Second, the muzzle is usually worn to avoid accidents, some of these dogs are "edgy" and that can translate to people getting bitten that may not be the person targeted, but, that can and does happen with civilian LE dogs too.

Now, tell me, how do you know that they sent him to kill and he did it perfectly? Maybe you know something I dont, that link you posted would not open for me...did they have a picture or a video of the dog actually killing a "bad guy"?
Of course accidents happen with dogs, especially when you have that many to deal with and with handlers coming and going constantly. I am going to get some popcorn, I will be right back, I have a feeling this will be good....

You have all the details in the articles. I 'm sorry you cannot open the links. Enjoy your popcorn!

So, I was able to look at that article you posted about. Common knowledge stuff, nothing new or earth shuddering and no video or pics of any dog killing a terrorist "perfectly" as you so put it.
ali44, you do realize that these are not pets, they are working dogs trained to do a job, yes? It is very rare that a handler is killed by his dog or anyone else's.

BlackMalinois, I have reported your problem, in the mean time I have fixed the links for you.

Hired dog, I know very well the last thing these army dogs are is pets. When have I said otherwise? The Austrian minister said the dog was specially trained to go into a building and stop terrorists. How do you think he is taught to do that: by immobilizing them like a police dog would do with a suspect?
Like you said: it is very rare they actually kill a soldier from their own army, but when it happens it is also very tragic. They are very useful dogs for the armies, and despite all kind of incidents the armies will go on using them.
If it were a civil dog, it were more than certainly be euthanized, but in this case the dog may simply be sent on some antiterrorist mission ( unless it is ill or something).

Ali44, actually, yes, that is how that dog would stop a terrorist too, like a police dog would with a suspect. Please stop fantasizing or pretending. Dogs are there to locate and detain suspects/terrorists, not kill them in this P/C world.
If it were a "civilian" dog, not civil, I hope the dog is civil which means something totally different then what you meant to say here.
In this case, you have no idea what the dog will be tasked to do next, it may very well become operational or it may be sent for more training or it maybe retired.

More and more the police and military are not looking for aggressive dogs per se, but dogs that are social, have super nerves and extreme hunt and prey drive which motivates them to bite, which is different from a more active defensive aggression where the dog is trying to violently hurt a perceived threat. Such dogs often have traits such as mistrust, sharpness, dominance, and a low threshold for defense. These latter traits are desired less and less by the military and police. Finding a good Rottweiler is becoming like a blind squirrel finding a nut. The Austrian military might have maintained some good breeding stock since they have their own breeding program.

LOL apple, demand for that type of dogs is actually growing, as prey only dogs are failing more and more often
