Hund,
You're right. That did sound very harsh on my part. It was a baddd day. I'm usually a bit more tactful. For that, I'm sorry.

I think we need to way more careful in our diagnosis , because we may be putting otherwise good dogs to sleep for no good reason other than a misinformed diagnosis.
I have seen dogs that will nail even the owner if the owner attempts to take away a bowl with food from the dog; otherwise these dogs do fine with family members.
I personally know of a dog that bit several people ( including the owner, and also the person who bred the dog ). Despite this, the breeder refuses to put down the dog and dog will live out its life on a large countryside acreage in a N Eastern State.

I had sold a puppy (GSD) to a young couple, they loved and adored the pup/dog. At about 2 years old he all of a sudden turned on their visiting mother-in-law. They thought it was maybe something she had done as she was a stranger to the household. About a week later he bit again and than returned to normal. The landlord heard about it and advised that they needed to get rid of the dog. To make a long story short, he came back to my area, we rehomed him to a woman who thought she could handle and retrain. He bit her also. He went to a a trainer/evaluator. He called and said there is nothing I can do for this dog. One day he will seriously hurt or kill someone.
We had our vet put him down, sent him to the pathologist and had a necropsy done. Including the brain, eyes and ears.
Nothing was found. Have never heard of Rage Syndrome but it makes perfect sense now. Just need the cause and the treatment now.
