As far as general terms go I also agree in with bubbabooboo's post. I would like to say that great trainers are the one from which I can learn. I have read a lot of books on training of other animals I read books from people like Pat Parelli, Jim Masterson, John Lyons who are tremendous horse trainers and I have learned tremendous amount from Temple Grandin whi is an amazing person and understands animals on different level then any comprtment type trainer can .

Also I would like to say that good trainers are not egotistical, narcissistic competition winners. ( no one specific is on my mind). Great trainers are about people, private or LE or PP and S&R and so on who own and actually work their  dogs. Good trainer will listen to the dog owner and help him to make his dog better and to perform the work at hand. Be it family dog or Police dog or S&R dog.
