Kdruffel91, I'm not a big fan of the long hairs no issues them tho. It's just Chase has a very thick coat like his dad and my breeder said Chase looks exactly like Sam (Chase's dad) which he does. And they wouldn't be telling me that if Chase was a long haired cause Sam is not a long haired and neither is Chase's mom. People think just because Chase's fur is thicker and seems longer than a normal short haired that he has to be long haired. But he is not. Even someone who has and breeds long hairs told me Chase isn't long haired and that he just has a thicker coat and will look like his dad Sam. Some people recognize Chase as a "special Shepherd" a Shepherd with a straight back with show lines from Germany with a thick short coat.

Honestly who gives a rats ass what other people think. If you want a dog exactly like his father you should order a clone.
Other wise your not getting exactly the same coat because his mother's genes are 50% of his genetics and is grandparents and great grandparents also affect his genetics. Not just his father.
Just be happy that your pup is healthy and normal and go from there. Hair should be the least of your concerns with owning a shepherd.

I am posting 2 pictures, one with my male and one of my females. They are long coat show line GSD's with about 10-11 VA 1's on pedigrees (so, I believe nobody can say they are not ''real'' GSD! Not to mention ''a lot'' of titles and winning shows (the female is Romanian Junior Champion, by the way... Compare them with yours. It will be obvious that yours is short coated, I believe...

I hope I did it OK and you'll be able to see the pictures! Red Smile

PS- I have to mention that both of them have normal, short hair parents. Ocasionally, such parents are giving birth to long haired puppies. It is a recessive gene, so...

Chasepuppy, I am not sure how many different people you can ask about this. You have repeatedly messaged me picture after picture of your boy and asked a dozen times if he is a coat, based on pictures spanning from 4 weeks-ish till 8 months, and a dozen times I've told you he is not, he has a very nice typical coat for the German Showline. I've also consulted with my mentor who is well versed in coats and she said he is not. I do think the fact is that you WANT him to be a coat and you have convinced yourself he should be, otherwise you would be able to set it aside and move on with your dog being not a coat. You've also told me that his sire is a coat, when I've said he is not. I've shown you pictures of longcoats and told you the reasoning behind him not being a coat. You've said that the posters on German Shepherd Dog Forum have told you he is, I haven't seen any of your posts there to correct them, but if you say you have corrected them, then just post pictures of your cute Chase puppy and stop asking those members if he is a coat.

Now, I know you a very young and I half worry the breeder took you for a ride with this puppy, but from all I've seen he is a very good dog, and you should be happy with him. But please give up the fight about him being or not being a coated dog. If in the future you want a coated dog, you know how to find me and I will get you in touch with my mentor as she can easily sell you one.

Chase is a year old now everyone. He is definitely a short coat. Here is a video of him in my backyard. His coat is kinda like Furbo's. Chase is still growing and filling out.
