Guns do make me feel safer...I ran off a poacher shooting only feet away from my horses, kept them from coming back and accidentally shoot in a horse. I feel safer because I am able to dispatch rabid animals with a bullet instead of a shovel.
About thirty years ago, I was living in s very remote area where the town was known for being overrun with druggies.
A cop stopped me on the back road I was taking to go to work one morning before daylighgt,. He asked if I had any guns in the truck, I told him I had a 357 handgun in the glove compartment. He remark was, that's a smart thing to have around here.
That was it, I didn't have to give the gun to him, he didn't take it, just agreed with me having it, for safety .
When I was on the road all the time, when I had to pull into a truck stop to sleep I always had my handgun on the floorboard under my hand, in sight if anyone looked in the window. Nobody ever bothered me in thirty years on the road, traveling by myself, with my horses, Brahman bull, dogs.

Do you honestly think a gun is going to save you?

In certain circumstances, yes, I would be able to defend myself with a gun.  But I also wouldn't be willing to tie myself to a gun 24/7 in case of an iminent attack on my person.  I'd rather live in a society where I didn't have to be fearful and could just go about my business in peace.

Mindhunt, I disagree with analogy of drugs/guns, because they're two different animals.  I don't have time to explain now, but I'll be back later to do so.

So, you driving around with an illegal gun in your possession makes you feel safer, I don't feel any safer knowing this.
Yes, a gun may defend you or cause you to get blown away when someone takes it away from you or used in a crime when someone steals it, I feel safer already.

GSD Admin, yes I feel safer with a gun, but I also know how to use what I have on hand as a weapon in case the need arises.  I was the victim of a violent crime and I will never ever be one again if I can help it.  ALL the people I personally know that have guns, all of them are legal and all have a CCW so they can carry them in the vehicle or on their person.

GSD Travels, how are they two different animals?  The same routes to smuggle in drugs are used to smuggle in guns.  The same people that usually deal drugs also deal illegal guns.  Making something illegal for citizens to have impacts those who follow the law, not the criminals.

Joanro, bet that idiot thought he was in deep doo-doo.

I feel so much safer knowing some idiot who does not have a mental illness or on medication can just pull a gun after an arguement and start shooting. When my neighbor throws a fit because I trimmed their trees hanging over my fence I always feel safe when they head in their house and then come back out bitching.

More guns makes everything so much safer. No matter what I will never own a gun. Because I feel safer with no guns around me.

Still not feeling all that safe.  http://www.12newsnow.com/story/29626486/man-killed-in-front-of-family-after-road-rage

I wonder how the wife and kids will deal with this long term. A legal gun, I feel oh so safe.

Isn't it funny that republicans don't support gun control but also don't support mental health treatment. Then whine and cry when a disturbed person kills a bunch of people. If you want more guns you better find away to treat the most dangerous of the mentally ill.

I feel so safe.

'So, you driving around with an illegal gun in your possession makes you feel safer.'
If that is directed at me, the gun is not illegal. And of course I felt safer...people get mugged at rest areas and truck stops frequently...I never did, most likely because I had a gun. In all those years nobody ever took my gun away from me, or shot me. They didn't fk with me,either.
Again, my possession of guns is not to make you feel safer. If you are safe in your life without a gun, that's what works for you.
For me, I managed to travel all over the USA into major cities and countrysides of Texas, Arizona, Mississippee to name a few, and managed to come out unscathed. A lot of it has to do with knowing how to travel safely without becoming the victim of a set up, states where I could not have a gun, like NY, I had a handy dandy club on the floor in front of my feet. Could I use it effectively? You bettcha. Practice with it same as practice with a gun.

"Again, my possession of guns is not to make you feel safer."

No, you don't get it, I feel less safe with you having a gun in public. Want to carry it around your house/property I feel slightly safer.

Okay, it wasn't an illegal gun but you carrying it was. Because you expected the officer to do his job and take it.

GSD Admin, your issues with others having guns is exactly that, your issue.

You are assuming all gun owners are whacked out, quick tempered, low IQ, sociopaths that are just not trustworthy with making own decisions, handling pointy things, or things that go boom.  Funny thing is, most gun owners I know are pretty even tempered, deeply respectful of life and property, and generally fun people.  Those that hate guns I have found are anxiety prone, paranoid, stick in the muds.  But that is my experience.  Again, I would never dream of forcing you to have a gun or think that you are unable to behave in a safe and respectful manner but on the other hand, afford me the same respect of owning a gun and behaving in a safe and respectful manner.  It is sort of like choice, telling someone what they can and can't do with their body.  I like to assume people in general are reasonably intelligent and responsible.  But then again, I was raised to treat people as the potential they have rather than current circumstances,
