I'm sorry, but I had to laugh about how the mother is describing her daughter.  Let's take a look.

Christine Jensen told Judge John Tylwalk that McCaffree's German shepherd, named Teekal, bit her 13-year-old daughter, Holly,

Jensen told Tylwalk that before being bitten, her daughter was outgoing and happy. But now, she is frightened and often angry.

Her daughter wanted to follow in her father's footsteps in law enforcement and become a police K-9 handler. But now, she barely wants anything to do with her own dogs, including her own German shepherd, and is terrified of them, Jensen said.

"When she gets home from school every day, she goes to her room and closes the door. She still wakes up screaming from nightmares of the day Ms. McCaffree's dog, Teeka, attacked her," Jensen said.

So basically her daughter is acting like a typical teenager and blaming it on a dog.

Also, I'm laughing at, "My daughter wanted to be a policeman, but now she doesn't."  Oh, say it ain't so!  How many kids in America wanted to be a policeman or fireman when they were kids, but as they grow older and become teenagers their career paths inevitably shift to professional football player, rock star, doctor, or all of the above.  I'm willing to bet her career choice changed to movie star or pop singer, but whatever.

It's a lawsuit in the making, Aed Ion.

Bubba, sadly I have to agree with you about SOME vets. I've worked for 6, about half were only after the money while  the other 3 were not.  A good vet is like a good GSD, hard to find but worth looking for in the end.

Sure sounds like Junk to me. I dont want anyones dog to hurt anyone unless they need hurting. If im reading this right mommy dearist wants a dog put down and a 72 year old behind bars with a serious record. Straight paycheck for mommy is what my nose smells.

So, the daughter suffered a broken thumb. That sounds like this was a serious bite, and not just a random quick snap. But it doesn't explain why the daughter would have pain in her elbow and shoulder.

Who knows the full story? Maybe the dog hung on, and she had to wrestle with it to get free?

I was not at the show where this happened, however I see this woman compete with her GSDs all the time.  The only account I heard was that the girl did ask to see the dog and did not approach on her own.  Apparently this woman believes that her dogs are the best dogs on earth.  Maybe they are maybe they aren't.  I have never seen one of them act out aggressively at a show.  That doesn't mean that it hasn't happened only that I have never seen it.  She is still showing, although I am not sure what the AKC did about that particular dog.  According to the rules that dog is probabley not allowed to show.  I was just told to give her and her dogs wide birth so I do.  I don't let my dogs anywhere near them. And I sould never go pet one myself LOL!!

I smell a rat...and why would you even want to promote that temperament particularly at a dog show??

This from the 'comments' section after the article.  This person claims to be an eyewitness.

She was not playing with the dog she wasn't near the dog. She was standing with a friend when the lady took the dog out and the dog went after her three times. The family only wants the medical bills paid, nothing more from this lady. The officer learned that the dog has attacked several people prior to this event and that an animal behavioral expert told Ms. McCaffree to put the dog down before it killed someone. Ms. McCaffrree was self medicating the dog with anti psychotic medications just so the dog could compete in competitions. The dog has since attacked more people and she continues to take the dog out without a muzzle and with no regard to human life. The district attorney's office was aware of all of this and they still allowed her into the ARD program because Ms. McCaffree donated to the current DA's campaign. The family didn't want a dime from Ms. Mccaffree and stated that to the district attorney they wanted any money awarded that wasn't for vet fees to be donated to an animal shelter or children's hospital to go towards families that do not have insurance to pay for incidents like this. They do not and will not ever profit from the attack on their daughter. She did nothing to provoke this dog, was not petting the dog, was not talking to Ms. McCaffree she was inside to get her brother a drink at the concession stand for his baseball game outside. So learn the facts before you speak. And if you daughter had been brutally attacked by a dog and the owner of said dog had no concern for the impact of what the dog had done you would be a b itch too. The lady even said immediately after sentencing that no one would tell her what the hell to do with her dog and that she would continue to take it where she wanted to. What does that say about the owner of the dog??!! She is a lunatic and has no business having the dog. IT will KILL someone eventually. The vet and the behaviorist have all said in their professional opinion the dog should be put down. And the lawsuit asks for Ms. McCaffree to pay $1 a week just so she remembers what her dog did and the impact it has had on this little girl. Not a huge amount of money. Medical expenses and a dollar. A dollar. Ms. Mccaffree laughed about the fact that the dog attacked the little girl and then laughed in court about the fact that just that morning the dog had attacked her other dogs and her boyfriend in their home. Her own attorney had to tell her to shut up because he didn't want other people to hear her. Unfortunately for her, the court reporter and several sheriff's deputies heard her and could not believe what she had said. It makes me sick that you people think the girl caused this. She did nothing to provoke this dog. She wasn't even looking at the dog, and was standing a good 30 feet away from the dog. The dog took off running towards her and attacked her. She never even saw the dog coming so she didn't even run away from the dog or anything. I had to beat the dog off her and the ladies from the AKC had to come running to help her and her mom even tried to help her. The lady that owned the dog did nothing to help us. She laughed at the girl and said it was no big deal that bites happen. This was not a biting event it was an event to show agility and there was no place for spectators, this lady got her dog out of its cage for no reason. She even bragged to the AKC people that she had to give the dog Zanex, valium and prozack just so she could make it compete because it attacks people. The people at the AKC told her she knows she can't have a dog like that at an event and she can't medicate a dog just so she can compete. She didn't care that my friend was gushing blood and has never called to see how she was doing. Her mom tried to get in touch with the owner to get the medical bills paid and the lady didn't care. She has kept going to events with that dog and that dog has continued to attack people so what do you expect people to do? Let her keep doing that and kill someone. What if it was your kid and the dog killed your kid? Would you blame yourself and just say oh it happens, no big deal? No you would not. her family doesn't want money, they want the dog to be removed from her care or put down so that it doesn't hurt or kill someone else. They want her to have to do community service to show her what happens when things like this continue to happen. they want her to have to donate any money a judge gives to the family to a hospital or animal shelter. they do not want and will not accept a penny from her because they think it is blood money. You all could learn a thing or two from their family. They are amazing people and what happened to my friend is horrible. She is not the same person she used to be and it has made our friendship ahrd because she is scared to come out of her house anymore and is sad and confused about why this happened to her.

Too bad it's a GSD. Nothing I've read sounds 100% believable to me. AKC forbids dogs entered at shows to be off lead when not competing in the ring and they enforce that rule.  Bad news for the breed and for dog breeders in general. Just the sort of stuff dog haters love to talk about on the net. It supports their reasoning that dog ownership/breeding should be banned or even more regulated than it already is. Liability attorneys love it too - have you or a member of your family been bitten by a dog? Better call Saul.

Like I said I give her wide birth and stay far away.  I have never seen her have a dog off leash .  But I am sure she she travels to shows all the time that this dog travels with her so now I know to be even more vigilent.

by LynOD on 12 February 2015 - 18:02

Oh and FYI yes dogs are not to be off lead at shows but at agility tirals it happens that dogs are off lead outside all the time, most are well under the control of their owners , however there is always a possibilty they are dogs after all and the AKC reps only can police so much.
