Hi  1GSDawg,i think you missed another VA dog in USA you can breed to,but if you are not happy with any of them, you can always breed to mine.

The excesses I am seeing in the German showlines (heavy mastiff heads, droopy jowls, apple-domed skulls and overangulated rears) are causing me to favour the working line dogs more and more, but Cobra is one VERY nice looking dog!!

Oh yea, since your link doesn't work for me...

Now that is my kind of structure and look...Nice hocks, head is in proportion with size of neck and body and ear stance is not like wings on an airplane...I like this dog...his angulation is not severe

He is one of the better ones and I would not overlook him for a breeding program with a female of working line that was acceptable

I took a look back into the pedigree and I see why I was swayed..Jango .Furstenberg and Carolin vom Fichtenschlag    and Weithurchen and several others I really like

Not sure North America has many great studs, all depends on personal preferance as stated,to me there are a some but I would not decribe it as many and even among the nice ones you just never know what they will produce even when matched up with nice females, Europe still has North America out numbered I would think but America way better shape than it used to be.

@yellowrose of Texas

I am new to the world of breeding and I am aiming more for working line German Shepherds but I want to learn everything I can! I am curious to know why you would breed Cobra (who is obviously showline) to a good working line female rather than a showline female?

I am not answering on behalf of YR, I did not understand (working dog) as in work vs show, I understood it as a dog that could work, that includes the showline too Teeth Smile, I love showlines, lol

my foundation was  Cadett v BuseckerSchloss  and zilla v Weithurchen   wonderful combination of show and work  WG...I had the healthiest and hard working litters ever...I had lots of help from Larry Filo who is SteinigTal and you can see if you go to   Tripl H zu zu Vom Texas and   Moore's Konig     how I chose the blend of both.

After Konig was stolen I had to use a boy I bought out of Pirol v Enclavehof with the daughters of Konig and ZU .

He was Tripl H Dieter Drie Konige.

I like the fact that  the showlines of Jane SteffenHagen were at one time top working ./sl kennel who won and achieved tons of top honors in the schutzhund sport...

It did what I wanted...hard work as the man of the dog world in my opinion and behind most of my foundation was in the 5th generation or 6th nd he was Frei von der gugge..

I learned a lot about him from a man who spent time with him and his progheny.

WORK and health come first and I like beauty along with it...Tripl H Yip YAP

Bear Jerome was one of my favorite I bred to my females out of the foundation...LOOK at the V and VA ratings.

I also had a blend of my foundation girls with Cameron's Gator the son of Orthos v Tiekerhook who was so powerful I chose, with the guidance of two trainers , who are breeders, to use Queen Von der Held to give me the balance I was looking for in a dog who will protect, work and be a companion along with excellent health. I have 4 vets who know me and my  gsd and can stand behind the health and reputation. My customers for all these years still look to me for new additions to their family before the ones they purchased from me die or get too old to use in their venues. I am a small person with no claim to fame..JUST the words of the owners of what WL/SL of a few great lines did for me.

I bred 4 Ofa Excellent hipped females out of these blends of SL /WL.  The Tripl H pedigrees of some of my kids are here on Database.
