Well Xeph, you are a better person than I am - I could not get over that mistreatment so easily. Good for you, and better for Moto.

by hexe on 17 March 2015 - 22:03

Koots, one tends to move past the "I shall kill you!" emotion toward the soon-to-be-former owners that rises immediately on seeing a puppy you bred in such poor condition, when that is overwhelmed by the wave of "OMG, what if they HADN'T agreed to meet with me? What if they'd just dumped this pup at the nearest shelter...or let him just die?!?  What if...." that piggy-backs directly on that initial response.

Xeph, Moto looks beyond wonderful...good luck with them in Raleigh--hope the judges will recognize and appreciate their quality. It would be damn cool if your first bred-by litter produces multiple conformation champions. Thumbs Up

Xeph, the puppies are growing up very nicely

Hexe - you're right, there's nothing gained by dwelling on what was, and good thing Xeph was able to get Moto back. I think situations like that would be a concern for any breeder, which is one of the reasons I don't think that I could become a breeder.

Xeph - good luck with the show, hope you have fun with the dogs.

Had a great time at the show!  Wesson came home a finished champion!

Also brought home one of the puppies, Marcato's Cross of Gold "John Stamos."  He is only here for a couple of months :)

Brothers Ouzo and Striker are looking absolutely phenomenal:

How is Striker's IPO work coming? :D

Love that first one pictured... the grey on his neck looks really cool.

Not even sure she's started IPO with him yet...I'm getting more and more discouraged, since she is not communicating with me at all.  Sold her a really nice puppy with the expectation he be shown, and *I* had to enter him in a show because she flat out ignored me for weeks.

Xeph, you know how it goes...when they are searching for a puppy, and especially when they find one they lik, people are sure they want to get into showing, obedience trialing, IPO, tracking, and enroll the pup in med school, too...  Then they find out just how much time needs to be dedicate to doing those things--that none of those activities entails just sending in an entry to a show, showing up there, jogging around in a circle for few minutes, getting your ribbon and going home happy--and just how hard it is to work full time, or be a full-time home manager, stay connected with your family, and fit in handling classes, practicing stacking and gaiting and examination by the judge outside of class, going to IPO training, laying tracks, etc.,etc., and the enthusiasm wanes.  It's disappointing when the buyer of a very promising show puppy doesn't follow through with the activities, but the most important thing is that the pup is in a good, secure and loving home where he or she is well-cared for, beyond all else. It may be that Striker's owner doesn't have the stars in her eyes anymore as far as wanting to show him and do IPO with him, and she might be avoiding contact with you because she's embarrassed about that, or she worries that you'll try to pep-talk her into where she was when she bought him...or maybe the reality of the cost of showing and training and trialing hit home and it's just not in the discretionary income budget, or way down on the list of preferences for that money.

But he looks great in that picture, and as long as she keeps him happy & healthy & safe & loved, that's a dog's idea of a good life. The showing may have to be on you if it's going to happen.
