My old boy is loving this cold weather. It's easier to bring them right into the house. We call him the Turd Burglar.

triodegirl-- I thought your dog was hitting the enter key because of the duplicate posts--but something hit me the wrong way. "Jake is up in doggie heaven now"--that's not your black longhair male that we've all come to know--is it? I hope I'm way off here---but even your double post the other day, saying you were going to buy a black pup instead of breeding has my imagination working overtime. I hope I'm wrong, and your dog is well.

I was told by a couple of professionals over the years that they eat poop because they can smell UNDIGESTED protein.I guess that's where the digestive enzymes and probiotics come in

Guess I was wrong. The things you read into these posts. Imagine that.

I have noticed the same thing happening in the Congress and Senate, for the last 40 years. There may be no cure for it! Ha ha ha! I am just kidding, no offense to anyone. I couldn't help it!

Bob-O

Everyone, be aware that our dogs, unlike their wolf cousins, are scavengers first and hunters later. Some dogs do this, most do not. I have a female who does, but only her own. The supplements such as Distaste will stop this behaviour temporarily, but not forever. I think some will do it because the scavenger instinct is so strong. Others may do it because of a lack of nutrition or a mineral/vitamen deficiency. Disgusting, I know. They lick their bottoms as well, and we seem to accept that more than we do the eating of poo. While most dogs will not eat his/her own turds, no healthy dog will ever turn down a cat turd or a pile of horse poo. It is the scavenger mentality. MI GSD, I laughed so hard that I nearly woke my wife when I read the nickname "Turd Burglar", as I thought that was a Bob-O original nickname for a wonderful GSD who is long gone from this world. Not her own-Just the ones made by the cat. She was very stealthy about this, and would pick up the litterbox by the handle and carry it to a discreet location-and do it with silence. Ah, but the breath always gave her away! Bob-O

Hi there, My pups do that aswell. I believe they learn it from mum. The first 3 weeks mum licks up all the droppings of the pups, with the intension to keep the whelpingbox clean. She will even continue when the pups get older, but due to the amount the little ones drop after a while, she will stop doing it. Many times i am able to pick it up before they get to it, but i just cannot be around all the time. My experience is that they will stop eventually, but it sure is yucky, especially when they try to give you a kiss right after......! Regards Ulli Dresbach

Nothing better than having your dog panting in your face with poop in his back teeth. Cat pooh of course, such a treat from the park. Makes you just wanna give em a big kiss don't it?
