Dawn G. Bonome

by Dawn G. Bonome on 15 February 2007 - 17:02

To NoHunte.. Did Hunte buy a German Line dog or an American German Shepherd from J.Moses? What was Dallas? American or German? How many Dallas offspring? How many breeders with American lines bred to Dallas before he died? MANY! Why so defensive? American Line Breeder? No e-mail address? Why? Shoot off a gun in the American Show, and you'll see dogs up on the ceiling like a scared cat! A PITY! Man's doing with poor decisions in breeding! E-mail me privately if you choose to! Does the truth hurt? I have owned both, and the difference is so OBVIOUS!!

I don't understand No Huntes post, but I'm not sure it's wise to make this into a German line vs American line issue. If Hunte doesn't now have GSD puppies from imported dogs to peddle from his puppy palace, he will.

Blitzen, You are right! I hope that no on this board will sell him anything!!

by Blitzen on 15 February 2007 - 18:02

Boy, so do I, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it, Dawn.

by hodie on 15 February 2007 - 18:02

Are you kidding? Of course people who populate a board like this and others will sell him dogs should he want to pay their price..... It is, after all, all about money to almost all people involved in the breeding of dogs. By the way Dawn, you make some pretty dangerous generalizations about the bloodlines. There are good dogs in all bloodlines. There are dogs with weak nerves in all bloodlines, there are dogs in all bloodlines who have health problems etc. etc. Once you have a lot of experience with the breed, you learn that such generalizations are unfair and inaccurate.

I have not owned an American Shepherd for over 10 years. Once I went to German lines, I concentrated on them. Experience?? I have owned Shepherds for 22 years and will never quit learning about the breed until the day that I die. Every dog is different, with health etc... So in that respect, who is experienced? An expert? Me? No, and I never claimed to be. But.. who is? If that was the case, no health, hip, temperament problems and the dog would be perfect. The only thing I am guilty for is voicing an opinion. The American breeders DO NOT like our dogs, but when the time comes to fix a problem, that was created by bad decisions, where do they turn? The German dog. Otherwise, they are considered cowhocked, roachy, and aggressive. I also have friends who own American Dogs, and they will tell me to my face, they do not like German dogs. They can voice an opinion, but I am criticized? JMO! Dawn

Sad, isn't it that the hatred Dawn has mentioned takes center stage over the welfare of the breed. I've been on both sides of the fence and have talked a lot with Am line breeders and those who only breed imports. Frankly, most have had little good to say about one another or the dogs. I don't see why any GSD owner/breeder would not want to participate in a study that could benefit the breed in general, their own dogs in particular. I'm happy to say Blitz does not qualify for Pletcher's study, but if that ever changes I will be sending off what they need to include him in their study. How often will we be offered the opportunity to participate in such a major study at no out of pocket expense other than the minimal cost of drawing the blood and shipping it to Florida? It's not about American lines, imports, working lines, highlines, Czech dogs, etc..

by Blitzen on 15 February 2007 - 22:02

So sorry, I got my threads confused here, the reference to Pletcher's study should have been under the thread about the DNA test for bloat/torsion. I have an excuse, bad cold, taking decongestants and am loopier than normal. Duh..................

Let's face it...it's all about the almighty $$ here. Sorry to say, and I'm sure that I will offend alot of people, but even breeders who sell their dogs for OUTRAGIOUS prices. They use the excuses that "Only people who can afford my price can take care of the animal" BS! What can be done?? Who knows what the answer is. Boycot AKC, GSDCA, petstores??? Until we stand up and lobby for tougher laws in our states/country, nothing will ever change. WE can sit here, debate lines, genetics, etc., but until we stand up for the animals or our breed, the general public will always win! People think that simply because their animal is AKC Registered, or the "breeder" is a member of GSDCA, they are getting a great dog. And in all fairness, sometimes they are. Depends on what they are looking for.
