The good news is there are several organizations that are brainstorming right now to try to figure out how the dog world can best fight PETA and other extremist groups. For sure it's going to take a lot of work from all of us and we will need to find a way to work with one another so we get the saddle on the right end of the horse. There is strength in numbers........ *************************** I totally agree but with the PITA trial they lost a lot of face in the dog world even tho it seems their high priced attorney earned his oats so to speak.. http://www.petakillsanimals.com/Trial_Day1.cfm I also agree with Lorri that NOW is the time the USA take the lead as THE German Shepherd group in this country. Does anyone know if Hunte was sold German Dogs to legitimize himself to the GSD world? Is he buying dogs in Europe also? Are European Breeders as dumb as we are, and will sell a dog to him? Will WDA be scared and vote him in too? Dawn Bonome

Hunte may have been showing some GSD's. I'll see if I can get the correct information on that. I agree that the GSDCA might have felt they would be sued if they didn't grant membership to Hunte. It has happened in other dog clubs when they denied membership to an applicant; I belonged to one at the time and it cost that club a lot of money to defend against the charges. What I expect we might see is the GSDCA changing the way they do business and require sponsors for new members, one of whom must have known the applicant for x number of years and actually paid them a home visit. Maybe a paper application for membership removing the current one from the net. The downside is that there will be fewer new members, thus less money coming in via dues. That cuts both ways too; I think the GSDCA is fairly generous with making donations to organiztions like the CHF. So, less money will mean fewer donations to research that will benefit the breed in the long run. AKC sanctioned dog clubs exist for one of two reasons - 1)to make money, these are the clubs with apps on the net that require no sponsors. These clubs are traditionally the most wealthy and the most generous; the most likely to be able to do things for their breed that mean something like DNA resaerch. The negative is they are more liable to being forced into accepting members like Hunte. The other tyoe of dog club is the exclusive club that puts all sorts of strings on becoming a member. Those clubs have a better chance of keeping out people like Hunte since they require sponsors and the signing of a code of ethics. Of course people like Hunte will probably not be interested in joining up with a second rate dog club with a small tresaury with little chance to make an impact on the dog world. The GSDCA is probalby one of if not the wealthiest AKC club in existance. It would stand to reason Hunte would pick them as his first attempt at joining an AKC sanctioned dog club. It doesn't necessarily mean he's that interested in the breed; it's all about legitmacy and where he can make the most inpact. It is not nearly as easy as it sounds to monitor dog club members in the US. We sue for eveything and anything. A breeder's code in only worth the paper it's written on. The Catch 22 is - file against a member for a violation and his/her defence will be naming others who have done the same thing and have never been disciplined. You can't be exclusive in a dog club in the US, the rules must be applied equally to all members. Breeder's codes are optional in the GSDCA, members can sign them or they don't have to. Some sign it and honor it, others sign it and don't honor it, others don't sign it at all. No AKC sanctioned dog club will ever be able to legally discipline their members for a violation of a breeder's code or a code of ethics. It would also be very hard for a new organization to come into this country as the registry for a single breed and do any better. All clubs are subject to having unethical members, it can't be prevented.

Nah, Peta won't picket them.  They probably have a "one hand washes the other" arrangement.

Peta doesn't picket them and exchange they let Peta use their incinerator instead of local dumpsters.

So pathetic.

Is there any way to find out the names of the various kennels (puppy mills)(any breed) that Hunte purchases puppies from for pet stores? I'm thinking this would be useful information, but don't know how to go about getting it.

by Blitzen on 09 February 2007 - 14:02

The only way I can think of would be to contact people who have purchased a Hunte dog from a pet shop and ask to see the registration papers. I suppose there are records of his purchases filed in the state from which he operates. They might be a matter of public record. Another thought would be AKC records, but since he's probably not listed as the breeder of record that might not help. If he registers the puppies when he takes them from the breeders, that would show in the AKC records, but I don't know if he does that or why he would. At any rate, I'll see what I can find out.
