In order to compete, in the WDA  championship to be on the team one had/has to be a member of both.

Both what?

Mystere, I really try to understand.
In Germany I pay for my membership within SV, but by paying SV I become part of VDH, too ( I don´t have to pay VDH, it´s payed throughout my SV membership). Did this happen to be the same with WDA / GSDCA or did/do you have to pay for both?

From the GSDCA web site, and, this is how the web site was before any of the fighting or separation.

WDA & GSDCA Memberships

While many GSDCA members are also WDA members, and vice versa, membership in each organization is separate.

http://www.gsdca.org/join-the-gsdca/what-is-the-wda  (click on link)

From the WDA Championship page:

SUMMARY OF TRIAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

IPO3 & FH CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Handler must be a member in good standing of GSDCA and GSDCA-WDA (or a pending member)

Dog must be AKC registered (or pending) GSD

GSD must be free of disqualifying faults as outlined in the Breed Standard

All handlers must be a resident of the United States

IPO1 & IPO2 REQUIREMENTS

Entry does not require GSDCA-WDA or GSDCA membership; however IPO1 & IPO2 Champion must be GSDCA-WDA members

Dog does not have to be AKC registered

Any registered GSD may enter

Handler may be a resident of any country

Please note that Non-WDA and Non-GSDCA members may compete in this event. However, they would not be eligible to represent the GSDCA or GSDCA-WDA at the WUSV World Championships. The National IPO Champion, FH Champion, Universal Sieger and Universal Siegerin will be the highest scoring WDA members.

No one became a member of GSDCA simply by being a member of WDA.  Henke and Yee created the temporary fiction that WDA & GSDCA were one and the same for purposes of WDA leeching off USCA for trials and making USCA recognize the GSDCA-WDA scorebooks.  GSDCA is the WUSV member, not WDA.

Susie,  you do not become a member of any other national dog organization simply by becoming a member of one.  I am a member of USCA, DVG,  GSSCC (Canada) and I pay to each of them.  In the distant past, I was a member of GSDCA and WDA and paid to BOTH .

Okay, understood - so, according to the rules the IPO champion was allowed to particapate, he now is the "National Champion", but he is not allowed to represent the GSDCA or GSDCA-WDA at the WUSV World Championships.
That´s weird.

What is a "pending" member? Maybe he is?

Pending would mean that the person has already sent in an application form and fee.  But, in this case, we are talking about a board member who was supposed to ALREADY be a joint member in order to be elected months BEFORE the Championship,  so "pending" shouldn't even be an issue.

Let's try and keep this thread on topic without bringing other members into it that have not even commented, thanks.

I remember watching the first O.J. Simpson trial.   One of the legal commentators said that "Judge Ito couldn't just do justice, he also had to appear to be doing justice"   Did it make a difference for the head of the helper committee and his dog to select the helpers and put them in the position he wanted them in, I don't think so.  But, it could sure seem that way.

All this hub bub and in all honesty it effects less then 1 percent of all the people participating in Schutzhund(IPO). We can speculate and ponder till the cows come home but the bottom line is until the Germans decide what the organizations are doing it,s all hearsay. We are all the step children of the Germans we bow an scrape like red headed step children trying to get in line infront of other siblings.

If only as much fuss and time and energy were attributed to working together for a common cause and attainable  goal,s we could be the captains of our own destiny here in the U.S. and bordered friends.
