I have seen the needle go through the 'tented' skin & the chip wind up in the dogs coat...make sure the tip of the needle is in the dog....as far as registration, why bother chipping if you don't register? Seems a no-brained to me. Just sayin'! jackie harris

I believe some of these chips pull out with the needle after insertion and either lodge in between the skin layers and come out later or come out fully with the needle as fry posted.

When injecting the chip it is recomended that you pinch the skin around the needle after you fully depress the plunger to make sure the chip doesn't stick to the end of the needle and ride back out.
I believe this was the mistake of the vet that chipped my puppies, as she was a fairly new vet at the clinic. Never had any more peoblems with any other dogs over the ears. And i now have several chips buried out in the back yard, with their doggies.
