forget about tables and charts as they wil not help you in breeding, it is all about selecting the right puppy to keep/buy, and selecting the right male for your female, no map, chart, fame or money will improve your qualty of offspring when your breedingpair dont match

In my opinion, a true GSD isnt about their trial scorecards.  A lot of the GSD now days are mainly prey driven and do well in SchH, but their drives aren't balanced.  I've noticed a lot of high prey GSD that lack defense.  While I'm a novice, it isn't hard to comprehend the GSD original standard.

I plan to get a female towards the end of the year or next year.  I'm not worried about getting her on the podium.  I'm after a strong, balanced drives, serious female with great nerves.   My breeder search has been VERY time consuming and stressful.  I'm hoping I can find a great female in the states.  I've emailed various breeders and talked with Staatsmacht.  I'm hoping either his kennel or the ones he mentioned earlier works out.   I'm sure I will work her in SchH, but I also plan to do a lot more bitework away from the visable bite sleeve.  Maybe SAR, herding....I plan to earn some titles with her, but it isn't my ultimate goal.

While some of the kennels that have been listed have produced some very nice dogs the list posted is far from being complete, there are other breeders not on the list that produce fine working dogs also,a breeder could have only one current breeding female and if she happens to be matched up well with a top producing working stud could  produce the best or among the best in the entire country, take the example of california chrome doing so well in horse racing,so lets not forget the smaller not so well known breeders.Just because a kennel is large or talked about alot does not mean that one is always producing the best.

I would much rather buy from a small breeder for various reasons.  Not that I wouldn't buy from a larger business, I prefer smaller ones.   I'm still trying to learn the sought after working bloodlines, pedigree history, etc.  When the time gets a little closer, maybe some of you guys/girls can point me to the right direction in finding the female I'm after.

I ve ve research all the breeders mentioned over the past 6 months or so and all of them seem pretty good.

I forgot to mention.  I've been in contact with Zbyněk Diviš from Aritar Bastet and as of right now, this is where I plan to buy my female from when I'm ready.  We have talked several times and from everything I've read and everyone I've talked to, his dogs seem great.  I have no first hand experience with his kennel

@Jmoore771   You ended saying, "... when I am ready." Does that mean you have a timetable in place? That is meaningful, I think.

by Jmoore771 on 23 May 2014 - 01:05

Yeah My next purchase is on a timetable.  I won't purchase a female until my male is where I want him.  I was hoping to be ready towards the end of this year.  It not, then early next year.  However long it takes me to get my current male GSD solid on his obedience.  (For the sake of me and my family's mental well being).  I've been so busy with my kids and work that formal training has been cut back here lately.   I keep him exercised and do some tugs sessions daily.  I'll get the obedience training started again here soon.
