I took the " cleaning herself and nesting in her whelping box" plus "belly doing the wave" as first stages of labor.
@ the op; when you say "nesting" , do you mean tearing at bedding and digging, then resting?

You certainly could be right, Joan!

What's her temp?

Yeah, some females do that for days, some only hours. I first thought she just meant she saw pups moving b/c she was talking about showing, but contractions could certainly have the same description. Fingers crossed all goes well and she posts back w/an update.

If she is licking herself and digging, she could very well be in labor.
I do hope a vet is on stand by, and the op can tell the difference in between normal and distress when it comes to labor.

Lack of appetite is a very good sign of impending labor. Please keep a very good eye on her as others have explained a singleton litter can be extremely difficult for her to deliver.

Best of luck and keep us informed.

You also want to talk to your vet about the 1st 24 hours after whelping.  My vet said to bring mom and pups in within the 1st 24 hours to verify mom had delivered all puppies and afterbirth.
